Default Upgrading/adding subwoofer to 12' Tundra

Newbie to forum so excuse any questions that may sound ignorant!!

I recently traded in my 03' Tundra for a 2012 double cab Tundra. My question is a two part.... The first is that since I pick up my truck tomorrow, i cant find much on the factory HU, which is the siriusxm,mp3, cd, etc.. to either research it online or physically looking at the back of it! Pretty sure this HU is standard for most new Tundras.

Can you tell me if there are preamps and what type? Is the HU overall, one to keep for the long hall? Does it have LP and HP?

I upgraded my 03' Tundra HU and added a 10" alpine 1043d sub in a sealed box that was installed where the center arm rest would be in the back seat. Sounded great.

So my second part question is thinking I can recycle the sub and amp into a new box, where is the best location for sound? Ive already looked at a couple of under seat boxes but can already tell I may need to add a second sub. Im also considering selling my current alpine to get a JL solution if they are "all that" from what some people post. Also important to explain that I do like the occasional hard bass but am more interested in quality "full" sound. I'm 39, a bit awkward pulling into the subdivision with bass announcing my arrival!! So keeping it at 10", nothing larger. Thanks in advance for your help. And yes, its torture buying a truck thats not ready for pick up!

There are no pre outs on the back out the HU. You'll need to tap into the speaker wires, but its not a big deal. Im running a JL 13TW5 under my seat and it sounds great. Its in a sealed box, .80^. If you want the factory look, you can keep the HU with a line out or processor and just use the HU as a volume control. Or add a new HU.

Ugh, that's good and bad news! First of all, thx for the response. Also let me say I just picked up my Tundra today, 2012 SR5 double cab with chrome and I guess what is called a class B radio.
I get to boast because I've been driving a 2003 Tundra for 9 years. Apples to oranges! Great truck!
Back to the radio, it's a shame that the HU which is quite capable as it caters to a broad spectrum of technology, it does not have a common feature of high and low pass. Once your amp and sub are in place, it's sooooo much easier verifying these settings on the HU opposed to the amp. Especially on a mono amp. Tinkering with it today it just seems to offer a remedial "bass" and "treble" setting. I thought I was close when I found the low, mid and high settings but it seems you can only pick one to influence over the three. Again, they went so far with the capabilities with the other technologies. Well, anyway, I'll follow the lead you gave me and thank you for it! Day 1 of new truck, learning curve.... Just seems like they would have it covered on the HU side. Thx JJ!!!!

Congrats on the truck! Its always very exciting.

Factory radios are always subpar, no matter what manufacture. You'll get so much more for your money with an aftermarket setup.

    A couple options.

    -Amplifier with high-level inputs.
-Line level adapter (runs speaker level inputs to RCA signal level)
-Full Audio processor, RF 360, audison bit.1, etc.
-New HU that does it all and has pre-outs

Thanks Tim! Im thinking to go with the line level adapter for short term. My current amp has low but not high pass. Also im guessing the stock radio does not 12v for amp on off, if no pre amp no need for 12v!! I need to research the full audio processor, never have delt with one.
Also I guess adding an amp for the other six non sub speakers may fit the need. I just always hate not check multiple amps to make sure the different frequencies are in harmony.
It again just drives me crazy that any reciever that is considered somewhat high end though stock, and that it does not have the ability of a $70aftermarket radio to be able to control the frequencies. Who wants the same amount of lows, mids and highs being sent to all 6 speakers plus one sub at the same time? Each speaker is designed to manage a sound. And with no traffic signal, (pre amp), its chaos in the speaker universe!!
Anyway thanks Tim. Im going to read up on the Full audio processor but will probably end up buying a new HU that has the same stock features with the BT, Mic, XM with sub preamps. Or deal with the mulitple amps to direct traffic.

Now Im off to find side rails. My two kids are having to work to get in and out of the truck! Toyota is offering stainless for $420 tax included if I install them myself.
