Question Installing factory Nav in 04 Runner.

Hi,
I just got my 04 4Runner Limited a couple months ago and love it. When I bought it, I didn't think I would really want the navigation system, but now I really wish I would have done so. So I have been thinking about installing a factory nav into my Runner. I really like how the factory unit looks in the dash.

I've been reading many different forums, and see that alot of people have been getting Nav units from oemvalue.com. It looks like the unit they are selling originally came out of the Camry because its a one piece unit, but the problem with this is that all the backlighting is green instead of amber.

So my first question, is the factory Nav out of a 04 Runner a one piece unit? Or is the brain still mounted in the back somewhere like it was in 03? If it is still a multi piece unit, anyone know why? Seems like Toyota would want to keep them all the same? I really would like to keep the backlighting all the same, and trying to replace a bunch of bulbs in a headunit is a pain.

Currently I have the 10 speaker JBL system with the 6 disc in dash changer built into the head unit. I see that the Nav system does not have the changer feature, so is there a CD or even a DVD changer available for the Nav system? I have read in other forums, that there is suppose to be an option of a changer that mounts in that secret area in the glove box, is that true? I can't seem to find any information about it or any actual pictures of one. I really don't want to lose the changer, and that would be a nice place to have it.

My last question is, I see that when OEMvalue sell the Nav units, they also sell the JBL amp, and the harnesses as a package. What I'm wondering is, if this is the same amp my Runner already has? Since I already have the premium stereo, but just didn't get the Navigation system. It be nice if it is, that will save me some money if I don't need to replace that too, plus save me some time in the install too.

Thanks for your help
Chris.

Thumbs up

Got good news for you.
The unit for the 4-Runner with factory JBL is $150 cheaper than the one for the Seq/Tundra:

This is a different Nav unit than the Seq/Tundra model.

I saw this auction the other day, sure wish I could afford to get one right now!! But as soon as this truck is paid for, I'll be getting one of these.

This paticular Nav is out of a Solara, so if you have a 03/04 4 Runner with the 10 speaker system, this is the Nav you want. It supports the Surround Sound, and is a one piece unit. All you have to do is swap out the decks, and mount the ant. and connect a couple wires.

If anyone is really interested in doing something like this, take a look at this thread. Its very informative.
