Audio & StereoTechnical discussions about factory or aftermarket audio and video systems.
This is a discussion thread titled "Scion CD player in Tundra", within the Audio & Stereo forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I would like to upgrade the CD Player in my new Tundra DC. I also want something that supports MP3. I was on ebay last night and found a few CD players (mp3 compatible, Double DIN) that originate from the Scion.
Does anyone know if the CD player from a Scion will plug right in to the Tundra? Has anyone attempted this here?
Wow, if that is true, that would be an awesome mod. Are the Scion's players double din? If yes, we have am ok chance. I will do some research. Maybe run by the dealer and harass them today. Does the scion system use an amp? Internal? External? How many speakers? Anybody know?

Scion does have a double din HU ... it plays mp3s ... it should work
only thing to check would be the connectors .. but Scion is toyota, so it should match up.
Good luck

It uses an 160w internal amp. The Scion has 6 speakers. My dealer didn't know if the harness was the same. I took some dimensions across the bezel opening and it appears to be the same (4" x 8").
my buddy just bought a scion with 18" TRD rims by RacingHart, pzero/nero 215/18 35s. talk about rubberbands.
anyways, i just litened to his factory stereo and i was impressed with the stock sound. the fact that is plays mp3s is a bonus. sounded better tha my tundra thats for sure.
if it fits in the tundra, and you can find it on ebay for under 120 clams, that is a good ecconomical solution to your music woes.

...And as a matter of fact, i cant spell.
What a great idea! i never even thought of that...i was wondering how i could get my stereo to play mp3s. I was thinking of getting a cd changer with mp3 capabilities. But this is a better idea...and cheaper! YESS!
Let us know how the swap turns out.
Hey, that would solve my problem but cause another. While at the dealership having them work on my Tundra for it's 15,000 mile maintennance I looked at the Scion line. While talking to the sales rep, test driving each Scion, and talking to my service rep (who handles the Scions) I found out something surprising. Depending on how you get it done, adding an aftermarket stereo system will not void the warranty on your vehicle. But, according to my rep, if you add a Scion component to a Toyota, or visa versa, the warranty on the component and the vehicle would both be voided. Even though I bought a Toyota for reliability, I like having a warranty for those "just-in-case" type of situations.
jvarney, glad to hear you didn't have any problems. One thing I'd like to ask, is since the Scion radios support XM radio, will that work once an antennae is added with the subscription service?

A vehicle warranty cannot be voided for installing an aftermarket part. Any dealer who denies a vehicle warranty due to the installation of an aftermarket part is making an illegal statement, in violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Protection Act.

Sure, but try arguing that point with the toyota dealership. if they are the only game in town, and they tell you to take a hike, you know what happens...i take a hike.
i have an s/c still in box. do you think they would cover my drivetrain if i have it put on? Caveot: my truck is an 04', the s/c is for an03' sequoia. I told my dealership i would secure all the 04' parts required to make it a complete 04' kit. guess what the dealer told me?
TUNDRATRX wants to install a toyota scion stereo in his tundra, and it sounds like the dealer wont cover it.

Since Scion radios support XM radio, will that work once an antennae is added with was the question.......it needs the module sold by scion....I have not found it cheap enough yet....
