I have a creative jukebox zen 30gb mpr player. I don't want to use the tape player adapter anymore. Is there a better, cleaner way to interface with the stock head unit in the tundra (6 speaker tape/cd player)? How about case mounting suggestions for it?
Thanks!

I also have a jukebox zen (20GB), and have been trolling the boards for advice. You can use any number of adapters that provide an interface between the CD changer control in your headunit to RCA jacks, allowing you to hook it up via a simply mini to RCA y-jack. Here's a thread: Success - Aux Input for 6 disc In Dash Radio
I'm thinking of mounting a female mini jack to one of the extra button openings in my center console (if you have a limited ed, its the ones used for the heated seat controls) -- this would look much more custom. Dunno what to do for power with it yet.
1. The pie attaches to the back of the head unit, hwever I don't have the cd changer (in dash) only the single. Does my head unit have controls for a changer?
2. The pie has rca females on it. Does that mean that I have to go to like radio shack and get a male rca set with a female mini jack for the mp3 player to interface using a double male (one at each end) minijack?
3. Was thinking of finding an ash tray or another cup holder to experiment with to make a mount. using an ash tray, I can send the mires in through that point for the power, and adapter.
i want to be sure before I order it you know?

Here are my answers, based on reading a bunch of posts. I'm gonna get my A/V setup going in a couple weeks, and will post my results -- I'd love to hear how yours turns out.
1. From what I've read, you press the CD button once for CD, twice it enables the AUX -- works for single-CD head units
2. Yes, that's the way to do it -- altho I would buy good cables and not the cheapie ones at the shack
3. Would love to see what you do for your setup -- I think I'm just gonna throw mine in the front console area

The little case that came with your mp3 player, do you still have it?
I did some serious research on mounts for our mp3 player, and came up with nothing. So I improvised. I'll take pics in the morning, but here is the lowdown.
I took the case (clip on the back, and cover that snaps over) and carefully cut the stitches of the snapping latch (the one that flips over the top) Once you cut it off, save it, its important. (this is the female side of the snap)
I cut off the plastic clip on the back, cutting it as close as I could without cuting the case itself.
I put a length of velcro on the back of the mp3 player, and a piece inside the case to corrispond with it.
I then took the female snap piece (its about 2" long after you cut it out, with the female on the end) and put a short length of 2 sided tape on the back side of it (so the snap is out) and taped it onto the flat ledge that is right under the tape player (parrallel to the floor, perpandicular to the head unit.) the snap should drape over the ledge.
Now I can snap the case onto the dash and the mp3 player is secured. It drapes over the middle climate control nob. However, you can lift up the unit to get at the nob..
Minuses: mp3 unit obstructs nob and clock
pluses: mp3 unit is secure, and does not swing hard even on hard turns. As I said, I will take pictures of it in the morning.
I ordered all necessary wires for the back of the head unit, and am still not sure how I will run them.
I don't think I will hard wire the car plug, as I usually keep the unit fully charged.

here are a few pics of the actual mount set up. Next will be the wiring of the adapter

The contols are already there; you just don't have them enabled.
I installed the P.I.E. adapter in mine over the past weekend. The head unit has a socket on the back that the P.I.E. adapter plugs into. Once the P.I.E. adapter is plugged in, it enables the head unit such that you can press the CD button once for the internal CD player, then press it again to accept input through the P.I.E. adapter. It changes to "CD1" on the display when you are playing through the adapter. Press it again to switch back to the internal CD.
I got a patch cable from Radio Shack (about $6.00) with a 1/8 inch stereo plug at one end and two RCA male connectors on the other. Worked like a champ.
Was reading this last post, and noticed my package on the table. I am going to install tomorrow. I also ordered the rca to stereo jack, and am still wondering where I am going to come out with it (you can see where my mp3 player is hanging) any suggestions?
Also, what's the easiest way to get back there, as I dont have any puller tool for the vents.
Thanks folks!

As an option, I saw this wireless solution referenced on the very helpful web site, Techreport.com. It's more expensive but cleaner and easy to set up.
Easy install. Took 35 minutes all told. Took bezel off (5 screws) took stereo out (4 10mm screws) Inserted P.I.E., figured out how to run the jack wire, and put it all back together again. Already I love it because my tape adapter made a loud clicking noise when it played. This is so much better already. Worth the coin.
Ya, I know, my truck needs to be cleaned inside.

That's basically just an RF modulator in a pretty package. RF modulators are fine as long as you don't get interference from other radio stations. That's the problem I had with my XM unit so I went with the hardwire solution using the P.I.E. adapter.
i installed mine last night for dvd player. i noticed now my 6 disc is having intermittent fade out similar to cd skipping. Does anyone else notice that?

I have a 2000 Tundra limited. After having the in dash 6 disc player replaced 5 times, I gave up, went to future shop and bought a $140 JVC in dash deck that supports MP3 (on disc) and also has a front mounted mini-rca AUX input. This AUX input would work great for your MP# player. Also because the new unit is only approx. 2.5" high, and the stock unit was 5-6" high, they installed a plastic storage compartment which is ideal for a wallet or your external MP3 player.
Regarding properly mounting your MP3 player, do a search on RAM mounts, they make 3rd party auto mounts for everything from laptops to cell phones and GPS' units.
