Default A/C Linked Defroster

Am I correct in assuming that an A/C linked defroster is one that when I have my heat controls in one of the defroster settings, the A/C kicks on and off to help clear the window? If so...is there any way to un-link them? I understand that the A/C helps in humid conditions, but I'd like to have control over when I want it one, by simply pushing the A/C button. I have an '04 Tundra DC. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

On the 2000 models theres two wires that are connected behind the air flow selector knob, I disconnected them so the AC doesn't come on when I select the defrost or the defrost combo.
