Default Direct speaker replacements for late model Sequoia?

I pulled one of the front door panels off my '05 Sequioa today to have a look-see regarding Dynamat and replacement speakers.

Has anyone just replaced the factory JBL speakers in the doors using the stock wiring and amps? You obviously would need to make some modifications to fit new speakers, but it seems like that would be easy. It looks like a 6.5 inch or 6.75 inch component set would more-or-less just drop right in.

Granted, a new head unit and new amps and wiring would cure all, but I think if the mediocre speakers were upgraded, that would be easiest and least expensive improvement. Adding Dynamat while you have the door panels off makes a lot of sense too.

I'm not sure how the front door component system is setup. I know the tweeters are on top of the door near the A-pillars, but what are the speakers in the lower door? Is it a woofer & tweeter pair or a midrange/midbase pair? There doesn't seem to be any external cross-overs in the door either.

Default I had the shop check

I was looking at swapping out speakers and putting in JL Audio TR seperates. The shop checked everything and said they wouldn't recommend it with out doing an amp also. The stock speakers (jbl 6 disk premium setup) had 2 ohm woofer, 3 ohm mid, 4 ohm tweeter. I t all runs back directly to factory amp and is crossed over there. I trust the shop I use as I've gone there many times over the years. Their not about making a quick sale and have to deal with customer service issues. Basically they said with the different ohms I would definitely lose sund volume and possibly quality.

Thanks for the info. In the back of my mind I knew it wouldn't be that easy. I can't understand why Toyota sets the system up that way. It's just asinine to do it that way! Do they assume that upgrades never happen?

Anyway, what did these guys recommend? A single 4 channel amp to drive all four doors? I suppose the only place to mount an amp would be uner the seat. The cross-overs for the front doors would would probably have to go there too.
