Default Gauge Wiring Question

When I installed my tranny temp gauge a couple of weeks ago, I tied into the dash lighting reostat ... and in the daylight it seemed to work fine, but while driving at night I noticed that if I try to dim the dash gauges my tranny temp gauge starts to flicker as I reduce the brightness ... and goes out long before the rest of the gauges. This really doesn't bother me ... but just wondering if I have created a problem that should be fixed before it creates more.
The gauge lighting is connected to the reostat, but the + wire to the gauge itself is powered by a separate fuse block.
