Default Kicker L5

Hey all,
Getting ready to do a system for my truck. For the sub I was going to go with a Kicker Solo Baric L5. Should I get the 2ohm or the 4ohm one??? I listen to mostely hip hop if that means anything. Also I am going to use a 500w amp. Any suggestions?? I need to get the amp from best buy because I have alot of credit there so that narrows down my options. Also I can hook this stuff up to my stock 6 cd changer face plate correct?
Thanks

PB

Take a good look at the amp specs and see how it's able to produce it highest RMS output. For example, bridged mono @2ohms = 500 watts RMS, then get either a SVC 2ohm sub or a DVC 4ohm sub wired into a 2ohm load. Kicker's website should give you all the specs on their subs for comparison, hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.
So could you recommend what I should go with? The 2 ohm or the 4 ohm? Here is the sub specs

Model S10L5
Outer Frame Diameter, in (cm) 10 11/16 (27.1)
Nominal Impedance [Zn], ohm [per coil] 2 or 4
Power Handling Watts, Peak (RMS) 900 (450)
Sensitivity [SPLo], dB @ 1W, 1m 86.5
Effective Frequency Range, Hz 24-100
Mounting Depth, in (cm) 6 (15.2)
Resonance Frequency [For Sale], Hz 34.9
Equivalent Volume [Vas], ft3 (L) 1.19 (33.75)
Net Displacement, in3 (cc) 1601 (97.7)
Moving Mass [Mms], oz (g) 5.93 (168.2)
Magnet Weight, oz (kg) 77.25 (2.19)

What would you pick? Remeber this is for mostly hip hop music. Also would this amp work

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WD1V

or should I get one with a higher wattage?

Thanks
PB

If you end up getting a 2 channel amp, you will want to get a single 4 ohm subwoofer.

If you end up getting a mono amp, you will want to get a single 2 ohm subwoofer.

The link to the amp you posted could power the l5, but keep in mind is says 500 watt max power, while the rms is around 250. The l5 is rated at 450 watt rms and 900 watt max. So while an amp like the one you posted the ebay link to would get the subwoofer moving if you wanted to you might want to get a little bit stronger amp.

Hope that makes sense.

O ok I am starting to get it. So I need an amp with more RMS correct like this one

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...748657553&rd=1

This will give me 500 watts rms and 1000 max correct. That should be enough for the sub?

Also with that amp i would need the 4 ohm sub correct?

Thanks
PB

yes that would be plenty for that sub. And since it is a two channel amp you would want to make sure you either have a 4 ohm sub, a dual 2 ohm sub, or a dual 8 ohm sub. Any of those voice voil configurations could be wired to get the amp to produce its 500 watts rms.

Just to add, keep in mind that with a lot of subs, their maximum recomended RMS input is for sealed enclosures. If you're using a bandpass, ported, or free air setup, you can possibly blow the sub if its over powered. I'm thinking about going with a 10" Infinity Perfect DVC w/about 350-400watts in a custom sealed box. I like tight clear bass, SQ, so that's why I'm planning on a sealed box.

I have the L5's and love them. I am running the new all Digital Kicker amps. I have 2 of them. The one running the subs is the 650.1 and I have 2 10" ones. It sounds great.

I orginally had the L7's thinking that if you pay more it will sound better. But the L5's are WAY more efficent so you dont have to use as much power. When I had the L7's, I got hardly any bass and was really disappointed. The Sound Quality of the L5's vs the l7's running more power is not distinguisable by me. I just think its a heavier duty woofer, but does not necessarily put out better sound and it takes a LOT more power.

I have the new Kicker Kevlar Seperates in the Front and Diamond Audio Kevlar Hex seperates in the back.

In my opinion, my system sounds incredible. But I am biased of course!

I have pictures of my rig in my profile. But everything is hidden so I don't know how exciting they are going to be for you to look at.
