just finished hardwiring my valentine one radar detector in my 05 double cab tacoma and thought id share some pics. i would have done a nice write up for all of you, but i remembered my camera once i had already done most of the install.
as you can prolly tell by the pics i ripped my interior up pretty thoroughly, but i wanted the install to be nice. i ran the power wire under the headboard to the passenger side 'A' pillar, there the cable goes down into the dash, behind the glove box and finally draws power from the accesory electrical socket in the center console. there was a ground screw right next to it which is the one i used. pretty clean install imho, took me about an hour, but im a little slow and at times careless, as you can tell by my "battle scars"
anyways, i had fun taking apart my taco and the detector works great, since the socket is only on with the truck you dont have to worry about turning the detector off or anything like that.
i hate the spiral cord hanging and have hardwired this same detector in 3 different cars (02 acura rsx, 02 explorer and the 05 taco)
if anyone else has a detector i highly reccomend hardwiring.
Ok can you help me out a little and go over removing the radio from the dash. Maybe a little off topic but since it seems as though you've done ok with it I fiqured I'd ask. I need to get to the rear of the radio; how do you remove the climate console and radio from the dash? Thanks

the climate control part of the dash is held on by clips. just insert some kind of prying device underneath and for lack of a better word PRY. hehe you can use a flat head screwdriver, a putty knife, or a small pry bar. i have a prying tool that i use which works great. after you pry it open just unplug the harnesses and put the piece to the side. then you will see 4 10mm bolts, unscrew all of them and the radio will come out. pull slightly upwards with firm pressure.

Hey did you see if the ECU was still behind the glove box?

there ya go lucky13. as you can tell the big black box is the a/c filter, to the right of that is the ecu, to the left, where rubber band and zip tie are at is my valentine wiring.

Looks nice.
i have tinted windows. the tint goes over the black dots.
that sucks that theres no filter, the condensor could get clogged and that would not be good.
Yep, I opened the slot and there was not filter. I talked to the "Old and Wise" parts guy and there is no cabin filter part number for the Tacos. I want to try one from a 4runner and see if it fits the Tacomas. If/when I try it I'll post the results.
