I just recently bought and installed a USA spec aux adapter that plugs right into the back of my stock tundra stereo, to get a direct line connection, and I gotta say, its awesome. Im lovin' it. If any of you are thinking about how to get a direct line connection for your IPOD, without having to spend $200-$300 (or more) on a new deck, this is definately one way to go (only $60). It beats using the tape deck adapter, which I was getting a real crappy magnetic clicking noise from. It only lacks controlling the IPOD from the stock stereo, but personally I like to control my IPOD directly. They do make different brands that can control some features of the IPOD that are a little more pricey. But Im definately pleased with my setup. Thanks to tundraV8Georgia for help with accessing the back of the stereo!
great to hear that you like it. I bought one a month ago but yet to install it...time is hard to find when you have 2, 9 month old twin boys.
My question is, you mentioned that it lacks controling the ipod from the stock stereo, but I thought that was one of the key features. I thought once it was hooked up that you could not control the ipod through the ipod but rather only through the stereo?
Help me out here.
Thanks and either way I can't wait to get mine installed.
hey, regarding controlling the ipod through your stereo controls...it depends what model USA spec adapter you bought....they have a pricey-er one that you CAN control playlist features through your stock stereo, but I hear you can't control everything like shuffle play, artist selection, etc. I hear with this particular one, the way it works with the tundra stock stereo, is you can only access playlists. That's only what I hear though....not for sure it that's true. Thats why I opted for the cheaper version that you just control using the ipod....I've got so much stuff on my pod, that I like to be able to scroll through really quickly.
And the install is really quick, only took me 1/2 hr....the stereo comes out very quickly if you know what to do.
hey pacer, yes the adapter that I got will work with any mp3 player that you can hook up by means of an rca cable. The adapter basically has 2 pairs of rca jack inputs, so you can hook up any 2 external audio sources (that is combatible with rca adapters/jacks), i.e. portable XM radio, portable dvd player. For the IPOD, and Im assuming with your dell, you just have to get an rca plug adapter thats a 3.5 mil on one end, and splits into 2 rca jacks on the other end, these are like $5 at your neighborhood radio shack.....the setup is pretty cool, Im enjoying it so far. I got it at crutchfield on line. This was the first time Ive ordered anything from them, and they were top notch.
Do you remember the name of the USA spec model you bought? I want one w/ the ability to control all of the play lists and shuffle etc.
The one I got is called the PA10-Toy.

How's the sound level, is it equivalent to the radio or cd functions? I'm using DEI and Kenwood fm modulators and they sound clear but the sound levels are significantly lower than radio and cd so I always have to turn it up.
We have the USA Spec in my wifes Acura. She loves it, works perfect and we can control the ipod itself or use the steering wheel/radio controls. It depends on how you set the switch when you plug it in, but it will allow you to use both at the same time.
