Just talked to Scoshe today, 3-5 weeks on the dash kit. They told me it was going to be a 1.5 din. This makes me unhappy. Orginally I had spoken to a rep that told me I could try and persuade them to produce a single din kit once they reached the production stage. I guess I would like to know how many of us would like a single din and then bring that number to Scosche. Perhaps those numbers would sway them.
Reasons for having a single din... I don't have CD's so a CD pocket isn't necesary nor desired. The deck I have now matches great the color around the dash and to to have some crappy black emptiness underneath it would detract from the looks. To fabricate something to go over the pocket would require hacking up the old dash and then dealing with the seam around the patch. It would be a pain in the butt to try and "dimple" a piece of fiberglass in the same matching pattern as the original dash.
I guess the name of the game as always is the more people you get the cheaper it will be. Personally, anything under 100 bucks would be worth it to cover up that hole in my current dash setup.

DIN is an acronym for Deutsche Industrie Norm, meaning German Industry Standard. There are DIN specs for a whole lot of things, including the size of the opening in the dashboard of a car for a typical head unit.
Another context in which it is common to refer to something simply as "DIN" is in the ski industry. The settings for release forces on ski bindings are measured according to yet another German Industry Standard, so people often say that their bindings are set at, say, 8 DIN.
Thanks for that... did I hear somebody say that they didn't have CD's?? Either this is an overstatement, or you probably don't have much use for an aftermarket headunit...

Perhaps I can install an old Alpine, Concord, or Pioneer Supertuner III pull out with a 1/2 DIN "1000watt" graphic equalizer booster below it, pushing all that power to some Jensen 6x9 triaxels with the blue foam surrounds.
(Those 35 and over can prolly relate to the above).
Seriously, either single or double DIN please!!!!

Corrections are welcome...
Umm, Empeg MP3 player with a 60 gig hard drive (room for another one if need be). If you don't know what it is, then don't go find out because you can't get them anymore. You'll want to burn your CD collection when you get one.... and I don't mean copy. Well, I do mean copy, first, then burn burn them.

LOL! I had a setup like that in my '82 Scirocco! The Jensens replaced a set of Spark-o-Matics.
