Default My system needs a "little" freshning up.

This summer I am planning on getting rid of my 1-10" kicker and my profile Cl440 amp in favor of a q-logic/kicker dual 8" setup. And as usual I have a few ?'s

    1. My sysem now only plays mono, in other words I am only getting half of the music vs. all the music with stereo. Will a 4-ch LOC help this or what will?
    2. The q-logic will have 2 kicker comp vr's(DVC). Would it be better for me to go with one amp like the new 4-channel amp from pioneer or to go with 2 amps.
    3. If I go with 2 amps, how would I go about hooking that up?

Thanks in advance for your responses, and feel free to ask if you are confused

Not sure what you mean about (1). For subs, mono is fine. If you were running your comps. in mono mode then I'd say for sure go stereo. But almost all subs run mono. At those low freq., you aren't missing anything.
For (2) and (3), your question is how to run your comps. and the subs? Most people I've seen wire up the Qlogic to look like 1 big sub. By this I mean: each sub is DVC. You wire the DVC in series, then each sub in parallel. If you have dual 4ohm voice coils it looks like: 4+4=8ohm/sub then you wire the subs in parallel and you are back to 4ohms. This is perfect for most 4 channel amps(you bridge 2 channels). Then you could run your front comps. and subs off one 4 channel amp(this is what I do).

Or, you could go with a 2 channel amp for the front comps. and 1 sub/mono amp for your Qlogic. Some sub amps. are 1 ohm stable. This would give you plenty of output for the Qlogic. In this case, you'd wire the sub voice coils in parallel and the subs also in parallel. It would look like: 4//4=2ohm/sub then you wire the subs in parallel and you have 1ohm.
1 nice thing about running 2 amps. is the sub/mono amp. will likely be D class and therefore consume less power than an equal output 2/4 channel amp. Then again, running 1 4 channel amp. is a bit easier to install. In either case, the amp. sees the Qlogic as 1 sub. But actually, each sub takes 1/2 the power output from that amp. So if your subs are rated at 150Wrms, you want an amp. that will put out 300W.

Not sure if that's what you were asking. /Mike

For #1 my whole system is run on the mono. Because its run off the same amp.
thanks for the other advice, the 2 amp setup would be nice but is it more expenisve than a 1 amp setup? I was looking at a pioneer 4ch amp that put out 100x4 @2ohms. Would that be enough or do I need more?

    Thanks

I see you need a tri way crossover to run that Profile CL440 amp. in tri way mode. Then you should be able to get the fronts tunning stereo and rear mono. Kind of weird. Most 4 channel amps have front and rear inputs and outputs. And with most 4 channel amps, each output(front and rear) has it's own crossover, and each output(front and rear) can be bridged independent of the other.
I can tell you I have an RF Power 851X amp(I know many people don't like RF, but the birth sheet shows it tested over 1,000W). It's rated 110Wx4@4ohm RMS. And 425Wx2 @4ohms bridged. So I run my comps off the 2 front outputs, which gives me ~110Wx2. And I bridge the rear 2 outputs, which gives me 425x1. So each sub could be gettig ~200W, but I don't have the amp. gain maxed out so they aren't. Better to get a powerful amp. and just turn the gain down, it's called head room.
Every 4 channel amp I've seen MUST be 4ohms bridged. So that Pioneer amp you mention 100Wx4@2ohms is probably ~50Wx4@4ohms. And it's probably ~200Wx2@4ohm bridged. So each sub in your Qlogic would get 100W. It will probably work, you need to decide if that will allow you to get the most out our your subs. And make sure the amp. is truly tri mode capable, without having to buy any weird adapters like the Profile seems to need.
    /Mike

P.S. Brandon, I've seen you on this site before. I had always hoped you were somehow related to Dan Wiggins, the founder of Adire Audio. That would be sweet, an Adire hook-up for all TS members. Oh well......

boy that would be sweet. Maybe he would give me a "overhaul" for graduation just for having the same last name, then I mention the members over here at TS and voila! Instant connection. I'll get back to you on that!

Thanks for the advice, you seem like you know what you are talking about so I will take what you say seriously.
