Default XM installed in 05 Tundra DC

Just finished installing a Pioneer gex-p900xm XM radio tuner in my 05 Tundra DC. I used a PIE adapter and everything works great. The only dissapointment is that the text feature does not work and I only get the station number.

yes, I was going to go that route, but I wanted the text function... I ended up using a CD-changer > Aux adaptor to get 2 AUX Inputs on the stock head unit, and installed the XM Roady2. It fits perfectly in the center console right below the HVAC controls. Sounds awsome, too.

I'm considering installing the Pioneer XM in my 05 DC. I have a pie adapter that I plan on installing this weekend and I currently have a roady XM. The lack of text is a disappointment.

How difficult was the pie installation? Where did you locate the pioneer head unit?

I have the Roady2 in my Tundra, and I prefer that route. I still get the text display on the roady. I have it wired through the aux adaptor, so SQ is still perfect. The remote on the roady is nice, too!

The roady also fits perfectly in the cubby between the HVAC controls and the cup holders.

so far, i've had my roady mounted on a vent. how did you mount it in the cubby?

Also, I get a little bit of noise with the pie adapter. i'm guessing it's a ground loop problem. did you have this experience?

I'm not the greatest at painting a picture with words, so I'll just post a few pics Please forgive the dusty interior. I've been driving with the windows down, lately, and I have been quite too lazy to clean the trucks interior... How embarassing

As for noise, I have experienced none. Before this setup, I had an alpine 9833 head unit with the XM-Direct tuner... I did not transfer that head unit because I like the way the Toyota head unit looks so "stock" (probably because it is, lol) and the JBL system has decent highs for my tastes... I have only added the XM, and a sub/amp. I have found the Roady2/Aux-Adaptor setup to equal the XMDirect/Alpine setup. XM radio is clear and crisp. The only noticable difference between XM and CD is that CD is slightly more "bright", but I believe this is due to the compression codecs that XM uses for their broadcasts.

That looks great there. I'll have to stick mine down there.

Do you power it with a lighter power adapter or did you do something else? Also, where do you have the XM antenna mounted? I can see the antenna cable coming out around where the cubby is.

Thanks a bunch for posting the pictures.

I forgot to post about these issues. I thought long and hard about what to do with all that... I can't stand half-assed installs. I did not want a cigarette lighter power adaptor, so I took the adaptor apart, and hard-wired it behind the dash. It gets power whenever the radio is on, thanks to a relay on the REM wire. Very proud of that. Gives it the extra "touch".

As for the antenna, I routed the antenna cable through the dash, and down to the driver's kick panel (behind the pedals) and out through the grommet in the upper left corner into the engine bay. From there, it's an easy route under the weather stripping by the windshield, all the way up to the very middle of the front windshield. I'll take pictures later on to show you this. It provides great reception, and a weatherproof installation.

I used the spiral-wrap that was included with the Roady2 to route the power/antenna/source cables into the dash. I did this as a "proof of concept" as it could be later removed with no indication it was every installed. However, now that I know it works exactly how I like, I can drill a hole behind the Roady2 (since it will be hidden) and route the cables INTO the center console. It will clean the install up, even more. Of course, this is when I have spare time, as I don't feel it's too important, right now.

LOL, I just got my DC XSP about two weeks ago, and have enjoyed reading so far on this forum all of the information, but never thought I would see pictures of roughly the same XM radio install as I did. I even rand the antenna the same way for the most part. I have mine coming out under the black plastic surround at the base of the windshield and then attaching to the black surround at the driver side bottom of the windshield. I have a question about the wiring on the power side of this. How did you do that exactly? Do you, or can you get pictures? That was my only problem when I did the install I didn't know how to get the power on the XM radio to match up with the radio in the truck. currently, I am using the cigarette/power outlet on the side of the console. I also did not use the PIE connector, what does that do for you? I am currently using the FM modulator method built into the roady. I had to also increase the volume output on the roady as well, but it sounds better than when I used the crappy tape adapter in my old tacoma. My radio also displays text while playing cd's, does yours do the same, and the XM just doesn't work, or does your radio not display text at all?

BTW thanks for all the awesome information on this forum guys, I am learning soooo much more than I ever did about my tacoma.

Yes, I can take pictures for you. I'm installing a new 6-cd changer hopefully on Tuesday (if the FedEx tracking # is to be trusted) so I'll be in the dash anyway, and can snap a few pix for ya.

The PIE adaptor gives me a hard-wired AUX-in. Trust me, it sounds INFINITELY better! The adaptor was $60 for me, and gives me two stereo aux inputs.

My headunit does display text with cds. I love that feature. However, the XM display is only on the Roady2.

Where did you mount the pie adapter? I found the area under the dash to be cramped quarters, so I ended up sticking it above the glovebox.

Mine fit very nicely behind the head unit. Velcro keeps it secure and prevents rattles.
