Questions and observations for Eclipse AVN(5435) Owners...
I have had some time to play with my AVN5435 and have some questions and observations. First the questions:
1) I noticed on some other threads here that members had mentioned the AVN5495 as an "upgrade" from the AVN5435. Does this mean that there is an upgrade or trade in program from the 5435 to the 5495?
2) When I got my 5436 I didn't get the pamphlet that comes with it regarding the ESN system. Does anyone have a copy they could fax/email/etc to me?
3) I found a vehicle speed reading in one of the setup functions. Does anyone know if this is taken from the vehicle speed sensor or is it calculated by location using the NAV system (like some kind of satelite triangulation thingy)?
OK, here are my observations:
1) Recently I noticed that I could not use the up/down arrows to scroll through songs when playing a CD with MP3 files. The buttons would intermittently appear. I called Eclipse TS and it turns out that this is one of the functions that is "locked out" when the parking brake is off. Eclipse went a little overboard here. Another reason to just ground the parking brake wire.
2) There is no "pause" function when playing MP3 files. It is nice to be able to pause a song instead of muting (while the song still plays) sometimes. This is even true on the remote control. I haven't had a chance to see if this applies to playing CDs yet.
3) Don't rely on the operator's manual(s) for too much help. They are very vague regarding some issues and look like they were written in Japanese, then translated (poorly) into English. Some of it is actually pretty funny.
4) When you use the remote to change the volume, it seems like it takes a while for the HU to "catch up". There is a lag time from when you press the button to when the HU responds. This is kind of nitpicking, but can be a little frustrating.
5) Seems like you are somewhat limited as to what information is displayed on the screen. For example, I would like to display vehicle speed on the NAV screen but it doesn't appear that this is an option.
Anyway, these are just some things I noticed.
Ken
