Replaced factory speakers with Alpines and improved sound in truck. Does anyone know if adding an amp to the factory head unit will improve sound significantly better?
if your are planning on adding a amp to your speakers you might as well replace the factory radio. by replacing the radio and adding a amp this will really enhance your sound quality and clearity. just adding a amp will improve but not that much.
I have an amp on mine and it's only a bit louder. Didn't really do anything for sound quality but I had the amp sitting around so...why not.

if you are planning on buying anything high quality name brand car audio beware because these manufactures do not authorize these website as a authorized dealer and therefore do not honor warranty at all. so do yourself a favor, go to a stereo shop and buy the radio. chances are that they can give you a good price and the best part is that you do get a warranty if anything should happen, avoid places like best buy, circuit city, Fry's electronics and any other large companies for their prices are set and the sales rep. cannot discount the price. just my .02

Funny, I have a 2 yr warranty on my Kenwood from Sonicelectronix...
And, the Msrp on my deck was $450 - I paid $211. Say what you will, I'll never pay Msrp on electronics again. My .02

try this, call up kenwood and inquire if they will honor the warranty for a radio that you had purchased online from www.sonicelectronix.com and see what they say. personally for being in the car audio industry, I know that most well known brands do not authorize internet site to be an authorized dealer and therefore they do not honor any warranty requests. if www.sonicelectronix.com is an authorized dealer then you are set any you got a great deal. also if you do have a warranty issue you have to remove your radio, pay for shipping to and from the repair company, and during that time you have no tunes in your vehicle. most reputible stereo shop will just exchange the radio for you and you have no down time or shipping expenses out of your pocket. also with internet sales you have no idea if the radio is new or referbished. let me know what kenwood says about your warranty. my .02
just sent an email to kenwood to see if they honor warranty for online purchases and if so from www.sonicelectronix.com. will post response when i get them in about 3-5 business days
also with internet sales you have no idea if the radio is new or referbished.
My Kenwood came to me brand new, not a refurb
And if I ever really did have a problem with it, I'd just send it to Kenwood and pay whatever for them to fix it... And I would still have money in the bank saved on this deal
Haters...

Why would you pay Kenwood to rapair it? Do you have a warranty or not?

Please...
It came with a warranty, as stated previously.
I was just saying if I really wanted it repaired, (not replaced, or monkeyed with by a non-certified "tech"), I would send it in to Kenwood.
Trolls that can't spell...
Back to the topic of this thread, replacing the OEM head unit really does improve the sound quality, no matter where you bought it, and even if they're not an "authorized dealer". 'Nuff Said.

Aww, I kin spell, can't type worth $h!t though
You're right, any quality aftermarket HU is an improvement over the stock one. I used a three year old JVC I had in my old car, an MTX 4 channel amp, Infinity components and Eu-700s in the back doors. The amp and components came from ebay so obviously I'm not worried about warranty either.

See, thing is, if your buying kenwood, you better damn well have a warranty. Most Blips, EVER.
