got a JVC KD-DV5100 to replace my factory deck in my 05 tundra. i know a bit (read not much) about car stereo installs however I like to do these things myself when I can. had 89 yota pickup installed myself - altho it was very easy - minimal wiring replacement - much easier to wire than a new truck! i did install 2 amps, a sub, and rear spkrs so I got some exposure to the whole world of zen car setero install. i would prefer to have my new deck installed by a pro installer. the place i want to use is saying they are gonna charge me 80 BUCKS to "bypass my factory amp" do you all think that is a bit excessive? not sure of the hourly labor rate but as far as i know it just involves rerunning some wires to the new deck - right?
well i am gonna go to another shop in the area to see what they say, however i am interested in your input.
also any suggestions with what I should get to replace the factory amplifier with? i am looking to upgrade sound quality and will replace speakers soon as well.

Bypassing the amp involves connecting a few plugs and a few wires, but $80 isn't too bad if it includes the required wiring harnesses.
The new radio will have a built-in amp, so it will replace the factory amp by itself. Just make sure they leave the OEM amp in, so you can go back to factory if you ever want to.

$80 probably isn't too bad for that work.
If you plan to upgrade speakers.........have them bypass the OEM amp for now, but seriously consider adding an aftermarket amp when you upgrade your speakers. The HU does not put out a lot of power and you will want more once you invest in better SQ speakers. It will sound OK off the HU with new speakers, but you might as well go all the way like most of us have since you've spent the green on a new HU and speakers.
I can personally suggest the eD amps. I am running their Nine.4 in my Sequoia and love it. I'm powering CDT comps, coaxials and a 12" CTD sub. eD also has a great prices on their comp systems.

LOL, we're gonna change your screen name to czechm8Ed. You are one dedicated fan.
LOL!
Am I that bad! The only eD gear I own is the Nine.4 and a bunch of eDead.
You are right though, I am thoroughly impressed with their simple, yet powerful and very affordable gear. 3 year warranty and great customer service. Made right here in Iowa.
FYI....I am also one of CDT's **&#$es. Their speakers rock!
