Default 05 tundra head unit replacement

Hello all, newbie here with a radio install question. I have reviewed posts concerning the head unit replacement and still have questions. I have found my amp under the rear seat and want to know how I bypass it ? Can I use the existing wiring harness or am I gonna have to run separate wires. I have read that tundras have a spare harness behind the radio. I seem to not have this harness and wonder if the harness was eliminated in 05? There are 2 connectors on the back of the amp and 2 connectors on the back of the head unit. What's the deal with this setup? The stock system does not have a cd changer, it came with a single cd player with cassette deck. I have 2 speakers plus tweeter on each front door, with aspeaker on each rear door. I was planning on putting in an alpine cda-9847 head unit for mp3 playability.

i was in the same boat - ended up replacing everything and ran all new wires. no regrets either. new system sounds 100x better than the stock!

feel free to ask any questions.

I'm warming up for the same project as well.

Did you have the JBL system with amp or the non amp system? And if it was the amped system did you just wire up the stock JBL's to the head unit or into a separate amp with crossovers etc? (I'm trying to decide of I need to keep the JBL amp in the loop or pull it out)

thanks

my truck came with the in dash 6-disc changer - so the amp was mounted in the storage area in the access cab. i pulled the factory amp and rewired everything.
i used the factory harness in the dash to tap the 12v Power, 12v Accessory, and the Ground wires to power the deck. then ran RCA's from the deck back to my new aftermarket amp under the seat.
i replaced all of the speakers as well and ran new speaker wire from the amp to the crossovers, then from the crossovers to the new speakers.
the whole project took the greater part of 3 days to complete, but i was fighting the elements and had to go inside to warm-up every 45 minutes or so.

I am having the same issue. I have an eclispe deck coming in the mail, as far as i know i have the single disc jbl system with 6 speakers. Would this be the amp'd version? If i need to bypass the amp, which harness would i use?

Thanks,
Nick

I'm currently replacing my stereo also. Took the OEM HU out. Bought a wiring harness from a stereo shop. They said it was the one for my truck but when I went to plug it into the wiring harness from the OEM HU it didn't fit. The stereo shop said I had to locate the amp and go from there. Thanks to this forum I now know where the OEM jbl amp is located. Where can I get the wiring diagram? Sorry new to this site. Thanks for your help.

OK, I have an 05 AC and would like to replace the HU as well. I have the deluxe system (non-JBL) with the amp located in the storage area under the rear passanger seat. Looking at the amp, it appears there are two connectors, one is the 20 pin from the HU, the other I assume is out to the speakers. I do not see how I can use the standard 10 pin / 6 pin configuration connector. I had considered routing my speaker wires to the rear and connecting to the factory speaker wires, instead of having to pull all the panels again (I replaced my speakers already). What options are available, or does this mean that my amp is digital and I am left to rewire the whole thing?

Any input or connector advice you guys can give will greatly be appreciated.

Thanks
