Default 2006 JBL Digital Amplifier integration module - Coming soon!

I just got off the phone with Metra and they are in the process of finalizing their new TYTO module for the digital amplifier.

This is GOOD news, however it needs to come out quicker than 2-3 months down the road.

As I understand it, the BCM (body control module) is responsible for turning the amp on and off. This is why there is no trigger from the head unit and this is why we are having a difficult time getting aftermarket units to work.

Yea, I know... rewire it you say.

Well... here's my retort to that.

1- I paid for the JBL system and I'm not going to junk it just because of some stupid digital trigger.

2- I want to add the VSE under the rear seat, thus if I bypass the system, what good is it to get the VSE?

3- There is absolutely NO room for an amplifier without some major work. The rear cavity is barely 6.5" tall, 2" deep and about 18" long. Find me a 5 channel amp that will fit in that area and I'll consider it.

4- I don't have the $$$$ to spend on replacing ALL 8 speakers AND add a custom enclosure & sub to get decent sound. I spend 15 years killing my ears and now I'm paying for it. I don't want a repeat performance.

5- OEM is OEM. Toyota spent a lot of money making sure the system sounded good to most people. As much as I would love to replace everything, I don't have the time, money or need to do so.

So, if a lot of us contact metra and keep questioning when the product will become available, then they will push to get it released faster and on the market. Remember, our trucks are not the only Toyota vehicles that can use this device.

I wish it was easy as just turning the JBL amp on and off when that actually has nothing to do with it. The factory head unit doesn't even have enough wires coming out of it to power the speakers without the JBL. The HU doesn't even have left and right, let alone front and back outputs. Instead, it uses an IP bus system that is completely digital that is translated into channels by the JBL amp. There is no way to power speakers with the factory HU without the JBL amp. Along the same lines, there is no way to use the factory JBL amp without the factory HU.

You CAN use the factory speaker wiring without rewiring the speakers, you do have to run a 8 wire cable from the new HU back to where your amp sits and wire into all of the speakers there. The wiring diagrams for our trucks are available to paid subscribers on this site.

Now for the VSE. You do NOT have to have the factory system to utilize the VSE. It has the exact same plug and internal amp as the EL series Bazooka subwoofers. The wiring is on their website or I have written detailed instructions in my VSE sub thread on the second page found here. Important - DC Subwoofer Upgrade Info If you want to use the factory harness for the VSE, then order the one for the JBL system. It is the short harness that you can wire right into where you are tapping into the speaker wires. You can also use the Bazooka harness for the self-powered EL series. The part number is ELA-Harness. Here's the item number that is available on ebay right now. Item # 9705203742.

I feel your pain about the factory system. Been there, done that. If you insist on changing the factory HU, then the JBL amp is out of the picture. If you just want a fuller sound, then leave the factory HU in and add the VSE. I did hear what you said and I felt the exact same way. I ordered my truck with the JBL and paid the price for it but when it was all said and done, to get the sound out of my DC I was really looking for along with XM radio and playing MP3s, now all of the factory stuff is sitting on a shelf in the garage and has been replaced. I didn't do it just for volume either, it was totally for quality reproduction that the factory system sorely lacks.

I think this adapter you have your hopes up about is going to be an expensive band-aid. Most aftermarket HUs have a lot more clean power than that factory JBL can provide. My Pioneer HU is rated 50 watts per peak and 25 RMS and is a 4 channel mosfet amp. The JBL factory amp is only good for about 25 peak and 15 RMS per channel. Really not worth adapting even if it's available. My Pioneer WITHOUT an added amp totally blows away the factory system WITH the amp.

Look at the bright side. A lot of us have already learned this important lesson and have found the answers you are looking for, even if they aren't what you would like to hear. No pun intended.

Exclamation 2002 sequoia JBL stereo question

I want to replace my stock JBL stereo, but was wondering if I would have to rewire my speakers with a new head unit or will the speakers still work the same?
Thanks
