Default Alpine IVA D310, no video, no I-personalize menu

Alpine IVA D310, no video, no I-personalize menu:

hey all, just tonight, i lost video in my D310. the touch DVD menu is still available and the sound plays fine, but it wont switch to full video mode. ive tried both my dvd-r and original dvd of the same title (guns & roses). another thing ive noticed is that the I-personalize menu is not available (cant adjust the EQ, menu display color scheme, or contrast/tint/brightness settings) in any mode. the touchscreen button is blank/empty. it doesnt matter if my truck is parked, engine running or not. i left my owners manual at the mrs.'s house, but the info in there sucks anyway. anyone got any ideas? thanks much.

ok, some updated info on the situation. ive tried to reset the player using the initialization/reset proceedure with a paperclip. i also fooled around with the menus and changed the input source to my cd changer. then i incorperated the dvd player at the same time. a message popped up: THE VIDEO HAS BEEN DISABLED FOR YOUR SAFETY.
i do have the TR7 trigger bypass modulle so my D310 can play vids while the truck is moving. im still searching for ideas.

I have a D300. Basicallythe same unit. Also have a bypass on it. I experienced the same trouble and it turned out to be the bypass installation. The install shop did a crap job. I wound up yanking the entire system and doing it again myself. Been working fine ever since. The bypass I have (Specialty 2002 - R1) has LED indicator lights so you can tell if it is in fact working. Check the bypass.

roger dat,

yes i called my dealer yesterday and he checked with his techs for reference, they suspect its the bypass unit too. they asked me to check the voltage to the pac tr7 before bringing it to them. i will do that in the next few days, im so bz with work, hard to find the time, but it pisses me off to jump into my truck after a long day and have to listen to instead of what i paid to look at, catch 22.

thanks.

just to test the theory, i did pull the hu out, disconnect the vid harness, the wire harness to the brain, and the wire harnesses from the brain to the truck to make sure all power was cut to the hu and brain. i let it sit for 5 mins and when i put it all back together, i hit the reset button on the hu to boot. so im thinkin the tr7 too.

i ran a voltage check to see if the trigger was getting juice, all was fine. so i dropped by the audio dealer and picked up another tr-7. i removed the suspect one and wired in the new unit, everything was working perfectly, yippee! i go to put away all my tools and put the HU back into the dash and replace the bezel trim. im just about to pull out of the shop's parking lot and the vid cuts out again. sh!t, im pissed. the shop said they have never experienced a prob with the tr7 like this. the shop is reputable, in business for over 20 years, authorized alpine dealer.

next we suspect is that the +12v constant to the tr7 is not steady. i will go straigt to the battery or try a power noise filter. i hope this fixes it.

anyone want to by a PAC tr-7? i got an extra one now.

ok, i ran a 12 ga. wire from the battery to the constant power lead on the TR7, still no sucess. i have not tried the power noise filter but i suspect it wont work either. ill have to contact PAC and ask them for help. wish me luck.

if that doesnt work ill have to try a trigger module from a different maker, or just do the toggle switch thingy.

ok, so i cut all my wires and started from scratch again. the PAC tr7 failed again.
THE ULTIMATE SOLUTION: i just made a manual trigger with 2 toggle switches. so far it works like a charm. problemo solvdo.

I realize you've probably solved your problem by now but thought I'd add a comment on the TR-7. THE INSTRUCTIONS SUCK. Now I know I should know better but the instructions never said anything about hooking up the ground wire. You have to wire the two sense lines, the +12V and the ground.
I should have know better but after I got no worky, I figured it out. Also, they could have made the note that it comes pre-programmed for the Alpine functions a little larger and easier to read. I caught that detail but I can imagine someone could gloss right over that.

thanks kev, the pac instructs arent the best but the owner of the shop has a separate set of wiring instructs that are perfect so it was easy. the tr-7 is already programed from the factory to work on alpine so thats cool. i think i know where the problem lies but im too lazy to try the tr7 again, plus my harness wires are getting short.

since the parking wire on the tr7 only puts out -150mv, i dont think it is enough for the alpine to sense it. when i hook the alpine parking wire to chassis ground, it works like a charm. as it says on the tr7 instrucs, there is only -150mv comming off the parking wire.

Hey, maybe thats why I didn't have a problem. I hooked my parking wire up to chassis. I too am getting a little tired of gutting my interior to add/fix components. Getting the task down to a very few minutes now to pull the seats, center console and radio bezel...go figure.
