Default trailer hitch wiring for FJ Cruiser

Hello all - just joined the forum and this is my first post. Just bought a Sun Fusion FJ and absolutely love it. Today I received a factory trailer hitch and wiring kit that I bought from Rusty Wallace Toyota on ebay and it included instructions for removing the rear bumper cover and bolting on the hitch, but no instructions on the wiring portion. There was a four-prong plug receptacle with mounting plate which I was able to figure out, mount, and plug into the factory connector at the left side of the FJ, but there was no way to figure out what to do with the included relay, two 15 amp fuses and this other multi-pin electrical connector with included mounting plate. Does anyone know where I can locate instructions for installing the electrical components that comes with the factor hitch?

Thanks much.

Ned

If you look just above the driveside kick panel you will see a wiring harness with a piece of white tape (mine was white and your should be too) aroung the harness. Undo the tape and you willl find the harness end with a plug to plug into the "brown box" the foam is to protect the "brown box and a harness that the brown box will rest against. After you rap the box look straight up and you will see a whole for the bolt. Dont forget to rap the harness with the other piece of foam that the brown box will rest upon...I hope this helps I when down to the dealership where I bought my Fj and they told me where to go look for the location of the brown box. The fuse location can be found in two place. One being your owners manual or pop the hood and remove the power distrubution box cover and look at the top of the lid. You will see a label for trailer lights.

Hey Troy,
Thanks for the information. I too just bought a wiring harness for my FJ. The only question I have is: What of the little blue plastic (relay switch maybe) box with blades? Where does that go? I have the brown box, fuses, and actual harness pegged. But, now what to do with that little blue box? Thanks
Paul

Hi,
I too have no idea where to put the relay, is it necessary?. I bought the wiring kit (4-plug) from the dealership for 100 bucks, and the instructions are horrible, they do show where to put the 15 amp fuses but they do not show where the relay goes I tried it in one of the open slots but my trailer lights still don't work.

I also used a circuit tester and found that there is no power coming from the 4-plug of the FJ?

And I also wonder what that computer chip looking thing with the mount bracket is? Is that for brake control?

Thanks for any help,
Jephellis
