Valor IDA-700W 7" widescreen AVE AV-152015.2" TFT-LCD Overhead Flip-down Monitorfor my boys in the back seats
currently running on my stock JBL system...however, the truck will be dropped off this Friday (7/21/05) at CarAudioHeaven where they will do a custom enclosure since Q-Logic doesn't have anything available for the 2006 DC...
*fiberglass sealed custom enclosure in the storage compartment
*
2 Rockford Fosgate P28S4 - Rockford Fosgate Punch 8" 400 Watt Subwoofers
*
MB Quart DSD216 - MB Quart 6.5" Discus Components for front and rear doors...
I probably could have went with some better speakers but after getting the truck suspension and tires done i'm pretty tight on my budget...if anything, upgrading can always be done later but i think with this setup i'll be happy for the time being...
get an extended warrenty on the deck, your going to need it.
As long as you listened to the speakers and did a long comparision with the others in the shop, then I am sure you will be happy.
However, do not bother with components for the rear speakers. If possible, I would leave the factory amp and speakers in place for the rears. Its just unrequired installation time and money to do rear components. We only did it to get people to spend more money on installs
Realistically its not even required in the front with proper time spent imaging as seperating the tweeters into the stock location is never a good thing for proper staging. It annoys the crap out of me with a speaker like a Quart with a really bright tweeter as it becomes very unpleasent to listen too and sybols and other "high" are noticably away from the rest of the sound.
WOW those Rockfords suck a big one. I had them running off a orion 4004 at 300w rms, and crappy sound was the payoff. Switched to dual RE 8's and have never regreted it. Those rockfords only go down to like 42hz or something.
Look at RE, Image Dynamics, Elemental designs, kicker, polk for much better options.

Did you modify the q-logic in any way for the RE's? Sealed Cubic foot says .217 for each woofer, and the q-logic is just over .70.
Sorry to thread jack.
Not yet. I was so excited to hear it that I just left the box alone, but when the guy at RE tuned my system, he said that I should definitely screw in a 2x4 or something to cut down the space in the box. I'm happy the way that it is for now, so until I find the time to adjust it, it'll stay as it is.

I have yet to hear anyone say anythign good abotu the rockford woofers. So yeah, you might want to reconsider if its not too late. Here is a link to the great 8 subwoofer challenge...and sorry to all the RE fans...but that driver did not fair to well...problem is that that most of the drivers that did do well won't fit. I have tried ed 9kv.2's in my Tundra as well as my current ID8's...I am liking the ID8's more and more...I also liked the 9kv.2's and am thinking about selling them.
Anyway...here is the link...and when the instllers build you a custom box...make sure they don't just give you a baffle
thanks everyone for their input...i'll be looking into different subs now...i still have till friday to decide what to go with...the enclosure is going to be a fiberglass sealed enclosure...not a baffle...
as far as amps, i'll be running a mono amp for the subs and a 4 channel amp for the components...

I bet you sure are glad you didn't tell that to the guy you sold your old 8's to !

That's cool. Did you have to modify the baffle on the qlogic any to fit the ID's, as I noticed its mounting depth is 1/8 more that the box? I wouldn't mind trying others, as 8's are pretty cheap.
I love my RE's and love that their headquarters is 10 minutes from my house. All the guys there are really helpful and know their stuff. Hopefully they will come out with 8's in their higher power lines (SE, SX, XXX, MT), as their 8s are RE, their lowest line.

I did modify my baffle (but not to fit the ID8's) back when I owned the 9kv.2's. The stock baffle is only .5inch MDF and for me that wasn't good enough So i removed that and made a new baffle that is 7/8" thick...so that picked up some depth...plus if you remove the plastic magnet cover from the ID you will pick up .25" as well. So between those 2 things I have plenty of clearance. And if you have access to a jig saw it is wicked easy to replace that baffle.
