Default Installing Motorola hf850 hands free Bluetooth car kit in 05 Tundra

I've just ordered a hands free cellular kit from Newegg, the Motorola HF850 model. I haven't got it yet and will post a review and installation summary when I get to the job in a week or so. It calls for professional installation, but looking over some of the documentation I can find, most of the job looks pretty straightforward. One thing I am not sure of is the connection to the radio to mute the audio when a call comes in. It talks about an orange wire going to the radio for this mute function. Does anybody know if Toyota radios support this? My truck has the non-JBL 6 CD changer with the separate amp. The unit can operate without the mute function, but it sure would be nice if I can implement it.

Here is the link to the unit if anybody's interested:

I am not sure if the factory radio will have it. I know it is pretty much standard on aftermarket radio's.

I found some general references and they dont mention a yellow or orange wire to mute the radio. The installation guide talks about using a bosch type relay to cut ignition power to the radio to mute it. May be more trouble than its worth, can always turn the radio knob down when the phone rings.

    T100_2_TUNDRA,
I have the JBL stereo , im not sure if they are the same ( as non-JBL) , but I installed a Samsung Bluetooth kit in my 2004 Tundra Double cab. My stereo has the mute wire I believe it was yellow . . If I find out any more info I willl let you know.

I started the install yesterday. Not a hard job at all. Here is the kit with all the parts:

I mounted the control to the left of the steering wheel. It has a self adhesive tape on the back. I routed the wire down through the gap on the steering column.

The speaker I mounted at the bottom of the dash with two scews into the bottom of the dash plastic.

I mounted the electronics box under the center of the steering column since proximity to the phone is key to having it work well. Bluetooth doesnt have all that much range. The microphone I mounted to the left of the driver in the trim over the door and routed the wire down to the footwell.

Finally,Here is a shot of the box with all the connections.

I'm still not done with the truck. I made the ignition connection to one of the 12v outlets. Finding a battery connection is tougher. Thats todays part of the project. I have tested the unit and it works well with my phone.

Any updates on installing the HF850? I just ordered it from amazon.com and am anxiously awaiting its arrival for installation into my '05 4Runner with an AVN5435. Were you able to find the 'orange' wire? Is the speaker loud enough below the steering column?

be careful hooking it up to the 12v plugs. On the newer toyotas the plugs stay active for I think 2 hours after the truck is turned off

This means that your cell could still be connected to the truck when you get out of the truck and lets say, sitting in your office (depending on how close to the truck your office is.)

Did you ever find and connected the battery connection (the red wire on your hf-850)? (Not the ignition connection ((green)). Do you think connecting just ground wire and ignition(green) wire will make hf-850 to work? I do not understand why you need to connect the red wire to v12 battery connection.. I thought the ignition green wire is enough to operate.

    Thank you.

UPDATE: you have to connect all the wires to work. I have installed it yesterday. Everything is working great! Still need to figure out how to connect it to car speakers...

ANY UPDATES? I will be attempting the same installation this weekend (possibly) and would LOVE some tips/best practices etc. Where did you get power for the system? Did you ever get the auto-mute feature to work? What about getting the sound to come from the truck speakers (so as to skip using hte Motorola one)?

    Thank you!
