Default how i ghetto added a mp3 jack to my radio

ok so i been surfing here for a lil while and u guys rock and i know my idea is a bit ghetto, but hey i only spent $1.69 on this

so i have a 2001 tundra 2wd and the radio it came with only has 1 jack in the back which the cd player is hooked up to. i went to best buy and found the pie adapter thingy for $99 but the guy told me if i hooked that up it i couldnt hook up the cd player anymore and there was no splitter cable available to hook up the pie and cd player at same time

so i thought what if i got to the cd player's speaker wires before it went into the radio? so i opened up the cd player and found the speaker wires and connected wires to that to lead out to a 3.5mm headphone jack which i installed on the dash

so now to use the mp3 jack i burned a cd with nothing on it and when i play that, i can hook up my mp3 player and control the volume thru the car raido and use the car's speakers

so the only permanent mod i made was the hole i had to drill for the headphone jack

so who likes my idea? hehe for a buck sixty-nine i do

Your cd player is separate from the rest of the headunit? I thought all the Tundra factory radios had a single unit for the tuner and cd/cassette. Cool hack regardless.

I have a 2006 double cab tundra and I put the Panasonic in-dash dvd player in. I just got an ipod for an early christmas and bought the interface cable today. Anyway, I am just wondering if anyone can tell me how to take the dash off so I can get behind the stereo and hook up my cable. I just want to make sure I do it right so there wont be any rattles in the dash... Thankyou!!!

pull your heater control knobs out. there are three screws behind those (one behind each knob) and two screws in the vents next to your radio for a total of 5 screws all together. the whole face should come right out with a little muscle. i usually just pry it out with my pocket knife.

i run my ipod cables from the deck to behind where the 12v outlets are

He probably wouldn't have gone through the trouble of doing this hack if he would have been satisfied with the price and/or quality of an FM transmitter solution.

FM Transmitter sucks.. i have one, as soon as I plug in the DC adapter for my MP3 Player, the FM Transmitter stops working..

I wonder if a similiar mod could be done to the input for the cassette deck..

<RANT>
BTW.. I have a 2002 AC TRD..

What the hell was Toyota thinking??? Cassette in a 2002?????

An air-chisle and a pry bar should do the trick.
