Default What size spacers for comps?

I have a set of 6.5" comps w/ a 3" mounting depth I want to install, does anyone know what size mdf spacer ring I will need. I have a guy building me a box, I can just have him cut me some spacers too.

THanks

I used a pair of 6.5 inch CDT compoments. I modified the factory speakers to act as a mount. I cut away the paper driver and broke away the "ribs". Then I used a router to cut down the ridge that runs around the outer edge. Then the replacement speaker can be glued and screwed into the modified OEM speaker. The nice thing is that the speaker is then pround of the metal door skin and mounted into the cabin as far as possible. I will post some photos.
I would imagine you or your sub box guy could do this without much trouble.

eD Makes a set of rings for a Scion tC. Apprently they work really well on the tundra. You can probably email them and see how thick they are..

... Oh, and when you find out the answer can you PM me? I have a set of CDT's I'm installing in 2 weeks .. So, I need the same thing ...

the ones for the tc are 3/4", the ones for the xb are 1.5". Is it the ones for the tc or the xb?

I'm almost positive it's The tC Spacers -- Reguardless, the proper answer is 3/4" of an inch.. Just found some old posts on here about it.

I installed CDT EF-61CFi's and had to build 1.5" MDF rings/baffles glued together to install them in my front doors. I also had to do a pretty good window track mod to about an inch. That was 3/4" for the rings and 3/4" for the baffles. I have pics in my gallery to look at...

how did you get the door panels to go back on after making baffles like that? I made some similar and the door panel wouldn't snap back on

I used one piece of 3/4" MDF and one piece of 1/4" ABS when I built my buildouts. I also modded the window track to get the CDT HD 6 1/2's in there.

I also had a problem with the door panels fitting back on and ended up having to "rotate" the speaker in the mount (up and back I believe) to get the door panel to clear. The cone of the 6 1/2 STILL hits the back side of the door panel when I'm really pushing it sometimes though.

When I mounted my eclipse se8365's in the back doors I also used the factory speaker baskets. Like you guys I cut out the poly speaker and then shaved the spiders from inside the basket. I soldered the new speaker wires to the factory connetors inside the basket and reused the factory plug on the door. I mounted the new speakers to the baskets without cutting anything away off the top and the door panels went right back on. The tweeters are against the door speaker grill but they don't buldge out and it places the speakers as far forward as I could get them. They sound so much better than the stock speaker because I needed highs and mids to project into the back on not bass since the sub is handling that for me. Actually the stock components up front sound really good and I'm going to keep them for now. I know you guys complain about paper speakers but my dc came with polypropelene speakers and they sound alright.
