1996 Avalon Spark Plug Question

I changed out my spark plugs and wires. first of all, i didnt take note of one thing. as the wires go, there is a short, medium, and long wire. Does it make a difference which wire goes to what spark plug? currently i have 1 going to 6, 3 going to 4, and 2 going to 5. im getting some popping noises from my exhaust, what am i doing wrong? does it really matter about the wire length going to a specific set of plugs? this popping noise is driving me crazy, can anyone help? thank you for your time.

also, how do you clean the egr? i had a check engine light come on and it said "EGR Flow Insufficient" . Can anyone help me with this one as well? ive tried to google it, but i cant find anything...step by step instructions anyone? thanks again!
