Took my new 07 Avalon in for 5k service and asked for TSB EG029-07 upgrade. No questions, yes sir, it will be done. After the work, noticed car didn't drive any different. Checked the paperwork from dealer. The following is a quote:
wants TSB EG029-07 performed
Recalibration Performed TSB EG036-07 ECM ...
End quote. TSB 036 is for a Camry 4-cyl engine! If they actually did the recalibration, I'm surprised the 6-cyl Avalon runs at all.
Any comments?
Thanks again for your work and great info.
If they really did the Flash per Correct TSB there should be a Lable affixed to the engine bay or Hood indicating the Correct TIS flash was completed on that vehicle. This is Toyota protocol.

The Correct Flash if it was TRULY done will only occur if the Computer scans and observes that the correct vehicle is attached to it. It will not inadvertantly flash the WRONG TSB to the Wrong Model Engine/Vehicle.

The Software is designed in this way.

I'm a complete skeptic when it comes to dealerships simply because of how they operate as a whole. You may run into a service advisor who tries to play dumb or push you away. Then again, you could get lucky and hook up with one who has a professional attitude.

I would print the TSB, then call the service mgr. at the dealership you intend to use and discuss it with him ahead of time. If he also acts dumb and claims he's never heard of this, you have 2 choices:

- Call the dealerships General Mgr. and get him involved
- Contact another dealership.

You may take your Toyota to ANY dealership in the U. S. You DO NOT have to have it serviced for routine maint or warranty work at the dealership you bought it from. Some lame service advisors will attempt to send you away if you did not buy the car from their dealership. Contact Toyota USA headquarters if that happens.
I see this all the time...and dealers tend to pick and choose the type of warranty repairs they want if they if at all possible.
Warranty work tends to be a headache for these Dealers.

Although they do get compensated for the work done.

This has happened to me recently regarding my 06 HLwith 10K milesand several warranty issues including the Trans shift hesitation problem.

Have cited my issues from 3K miles initially going back to a year ago.

No TSB fix has been published by Toyota as of yet for the trans. issue.

Your attitude is exemplary. Unfortunately there are TOO many Toyota dealers with a GO-TO-H attitude.

I've yet to find one that thinks the way you do.

Mike, I wanted to thank you for the info on the TSB for the shifting problems on the 06 avalon. I know it has been some time since you posted that info but I just recently read it. My 06 has shifted bad since new and I thought that this was just how it was. It's a shame that when you spend 30k+ on a car along with numurous other vehicles that I have purchased from this dealer, that they might contact you and tell you about these TSB's. I guess customer service is truly a thing of the past. Thanks again for the info.
