There has been steering column noise associated with the 2005. There is a TSB to address transmission hesitation issues with both years, but the 2005 has a more extensive fix by replacing the manifolds, o2 sensor, etc. The 2006 just has to reflash the ECM.
In general, it's never the best idea to get the first year of a new car or generation. The 3rd gen Avie was a major redesign and the first year will typically have the most problems in the long run. That's not to say it's a bad car, but that's the way it typically works and you can often see it reflected in resale value. The second year usually just tries to fix/improve the issues of the first year with no major changes. Both cars are good cars, but all other factors being equal, I'd get the 2006... my 2 cents.
