    Default timing chain or belt on 2005

    does the 2005 avalon have a timing chain or belt? When does it need to be changed?

    It has chains, and there is no service interval.

    You never change it like you would a timing belt.

    probably will never need changing they are tough but other parts can wear out and cause issues with your chains and the chances of this or not likely also but just an over view of operation of the chain, not the best example but it touches on the cocept of what will make a chain to start slapping and making a loud noticable slapping noise.     i guess the 2004's had belts but 05 do not!!

    I've taken one asian vehicile past 400K on the same chain; another past 300K.

    Change your oil and filter often and drive sanely.

    Do that and the timing chain will last the life of the car.
