Default Smartkey vs Shoplifter Detectors

Lately, whenever I walk into a Target or some other retail stores that have the shoplifter detectors installed by the entry/exit doors, the alarms go off. It can only be my smartkey or my Verizon cell phone, but I'm suspecting it has to be the smartkey. Anyone else have this issue or know how to prevent it? It's not like you can leave the smartkey in the car. I'm not an attention hound that loves to be stared at by everyone in the Target check out lines every time I arrive.

I say lately, because this only seems to have started a few weeks ago and I've had this car ('06 Limited) since August. Could the battery in the remote be weakening and cause this to start behaving this way?

I think the mystery was solved tonight. I walk into a Barnes & Noble store and set off the alarm. The clerk called me over and said he could 'take care of it'. I said I think it is my keyless entry fob. Another clerk asked me if I was wearing any clothes from Gap, Old Navy, ...., and sure enough, I was wearing jeans I had recently bought. She wanded around my waist and deactivated something that they sew into the clothes and I did not set the alarm off on the way out. Weird... you learn something new every day.
