AvalonGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Avalon.
This is a discussion thread titled "07 Nav", within the Avalon forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
Is there a way to by pass that warning everytime you start your car?
In a word, no. I put the new version 7.1 Nav DVD in my Tundra and it changed the startup to automatically okay the warning and come up on the map screen. I also put in the new version 7.1 DVD (a different DVD due to the different Nav unit) in my Avalon and was hoping for a similar bypass that I got with my Tundra. No joy, still requires you to punch the button. PITA
In fact I have yet to see any difference in the new version in the Avalon, glad I did not have to pay for it.

Hey DSM, how'd you get the 7.1 DVD without charge? (I'm currently using 6.1 in my 07 Avalon...)
Should not say, got to protect my source. However I can tell you that the 7.1 DVD is not copy protected and any newer Mac with standard system software can copy it. Need to have a double sided DVD burner as well, Mac's started using them about a year to two ago. Whole process took about 1 hour. Did both my Tundra and my Avalon, different disks for each.
Happy New Year!

As of last month, all 2008 Avalon w/GPS were shipped with the 06.1 software version.
The 07.1 version (latest) costs $980 (+ tax) for the Avalon 2008 Limited.
Once the navigation ECU accepts and reads the newer software version, it WON’T read the version that was previously installed (that’s a fact!).
Anyone interested for the original 06.1 version and/or a copy of the 07.1 version, I’m open for negotiation.
Does the 7.1 version still allow the nav system override? I have an 06 Avalon with the 5.1 disc. I want the new maps but I don't want to give up the override which alows me (or a passenger) to use navigation while in motion.
I think the initial acceptance screen is a way for Toyota to harden its case in the event someone got into an accident and blame it to the guidance software. Remember, the USA is a cash society.
paulieg33, on my vehicle I don't have that extra option you talk about. However, your navigation overdrive could be embeded on the system's hardware (Read-only-Memory) or it could be a map-software dependent. If it is the latter, then you will loose your previlege with an upgrade.
