Angry Toyota Arrogance and the 06 Avalon

Is it me or has Toyo become a victim of their own success? This post is about my 2006 Avalon Limited. I also have a 2004 4runner and just purchased 2008 Sequoia. I am really sorry I did. I am guessing there are some, but few better customers for Toyo than me.

There is a clicking / pulsing issue in the steering column of my 2006 Avalon. Toyota has issued a TSB on this problem (see posts here to view) and they have changed the defective part in their 2007 and 2008 model production. As for me, Toyota tells me I have to pay them $400 to fix this - in my 2 year old car. They know they have made a bad part, they know it causes frequent problems, and they are not going to pay for it, much less recall the defect.

Just the facts. If you are looking at Toyota, I suggest you start thinking about the extended warranties. If that changes the economics of buying a Toyota, as it would for me, then perhaps Toyo has some additional lessons to learn.

How many miles on your Avalon? Two years old or not, the warranty only goes to 36,000 miles regardless of how old it is up to three years. I also wonder if this is just the dealer telling you that you must pay. Have you taken it to a different dealer? If a different dealer is out of the question, then demand to take to the district rep about this. Toyota is fantastic about taking care of this kind of stuff through good will, but it will take the district rep's power to make the dealer do it for you no charge.

its typically the intermediate shaft, the u joints getting jumpy.. most dealer will goodwill a tsb failure if your a nice person and a good customer,, just ask... but also remember nobody wants somebody screaming at them like a 4 year old in a candy store. most of our customers like that don't get much, esp from me.....
