Default OBD-II Scanner Question?

I'm considering the purchase of an Actron CP9175 scanner to use on my 2003 Avalon, but I've read a review on amazon that seemed to indicate that it doesn't work correctly (or at all) on some foreign cars, specifically Toyotas.

Has anyone had any experience with this scanner?

Does anyone have a better alternative to this particular scanner ... in the same price range (about $90)?

Thanks!

Default Re: OBD-II Scanner Question?

If it is OBD II compliant it should work correctly in any 2003 vehicle.

I have one from CarMD (Order CarMD Buy Now) that I used on my 2002 Camry, and everything went according to the book.

Default Re: OBD-II Scanner Question?

Most OBDII scanners cover generic OBDII codes, but Toyota and others also have what's called Enhanced OBDII codes and software.
That model Actron may not have this capability.

This is from the Autoxray site:
Toyota Enhanced OBD-II Software Upgrade.
Enhanced OBD-II allows access to a larger set of manufacturer-specific data items. The data items available vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and even from vehicle to vehicle. Please refer to your specific manufacturer's technical manual for details
