AvalonGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Avalon.
This is a discussion thread titled "Timing Belt", within the Avalon forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
I recently bought a '98 Avalon w/ 115k miles. I was told that the timing belt and related items should be replaced at 120k, but I've heard conflicting numbers. My owner's manual doesn't give out that info, but instead suggests I buy or otherwise obtain the info from a maintentance manual, which is unlike Toyota in the first place. Anyway, where can I get this info and/or what is the recommended mileage to replace the timing belt? Thanx for any help, Dennis from northern California.
timing belts should be 90K. your engine is a non interference design, so if it was to break, you will still be ok. no damage to your engine. i see you are from norcal, if you interested in replacing your timing belt, PM me .

My 1993 Celica GT manual states every 5yrs or 60,000 miles. You are now at about 10 years and 120,000 miles, that is probably why they said to change at 120k if your car has the same change intervals as mine.
The Avalon manual says 90,000. Mine has 110,000 but I don't know for sure if the previosu owner changed it or not. I don't have any documentation...other than a mechanic saying they THINK it was done. Should I be able to tell the belts age by looking at it if I pull that black plastic over off?
