Check Engine Service Light (97 Avalon)

Hello everyone! I just got a check engine light on my 1997 toyota avalon. I would like to know what is causing that service light. The state won't let me pass inspection unless that check engine light is gone!! Any help will be very apperciated.

Go to AutoZone & let them scan it for the code (free service). Google the code to see what it is & what the most likely fix is.

The most common is limp wristing the gas cap after filling up (make it click at least 6 times). The second is a malfunctioning oxygen sensor. I've also had to reseat the connector by the gas tank, next to the fuel inlet pipe for a fuel vapor recovery type code can't remember the number.
