Question 2002 Avalon Blown Woofer

I have a 2002 Avalon. The rear subwoofer is blow. it is a JBL brand, and i would like for some help in trying to figure out what i need to replace it. And roughly about how much it would cost me.

I too had a blown woofer... Toyota wanted aboput $260 to replace. I found a web site that had pictures on how to remove it... I think the cost for the pistuce instructions was three dollars. It took about 8 minutes to remove, but pictures were very helpful. I also used my digital camera documenting the removal every step of the way... they were very helpful to review when doing the replacement.

Once removed I took it to a local speaker guy here in Charlotte NC and he re-foamed it. The bass prior to taking out sounded like it was blown out very badly. After a $46 repair after it was in the speaker doctor's shop for a week, I replaced it and it has been fine last 2 -2 & 1/2 years. If you do not have a speaker repair business nearby, I beliee many people actually UPS or mail speakers to him (speaker doctor dot com) for repair. It was money well spent.

I have a 2000 Avalon and I had the same problem with the sub...... I put in an 8 inch I had thinking if I used a 4 ohm it would work. Well speakers are different, you do need a free air and a lower watt may help. The radio is only putting out 32 watts to the sub. I look around and found one at partsexpress.com (Parts Express:Goldwood GW-8024 8" Butyl Surround Woofer 4 Ohm) this is a link to the one I bought. If you look at the price you may think it's crap!!!!! But, you really don't need much. I do love my music and I can't tell a difference between the JBL and the Goldwood. except the price.

I took mine in to a local stereo shop and they repalced the blown foam surround with a higher grade material for $25. Better than new.
