Default 07 Touring - MPG Rock Star!

After a slow summer, I've been piling on the miles recently - just over a thousand last week and around 800 this week. Take a look at my gas mileage number in this shot from the onboard computer! This is mostly freeway driving, with the cruise typically set just below 80. If I detour to a state highway with lower limits, the number jumps to 32 or 33 MPG.

I have verified this with my own calculations at the gas pump and the computer is within a few tenths every time. I continue to be impressed with the quiet road manners of the Avalon and its apparent invisibility to the highway patrol. More so when I see ads for lesser 4 cylinder, 160 HP cars that are rated for 29 MPG. Ha!

Hope everyone else is seeing such numbers with their Avalons!

I agree! I have just last night returned from a 3,900 mile trip from NH to DC to FL to Nashville to Wiliamsburg VA and back to NH. I averaged 32 mpg @75MPH or more except for when I got jammed up in heavy traffic and construction (in some places severely - stop-n-go to full stop for 20 minutes or more).

This is remarkable mpg's. I did an oil change with synthetic oil just before leaving. I used to get 33 mpg's prior to the ethanol using regular oil. don't know if the synthetic helped but I am pleased. FYIW I got to Crystal Rive FL on less than 2.5 tanks. To say I'm pleased is an understatement!

Happy Motoring!

Bob

Keeping your tires inflated properly will help your mileage.
If you 'overinflate' (as long as it is within reason, such as 3-4 PSI over recommended) you will see improvement.
Keeping your weight down also helps (don't keep a lot of 'junk in your trunk').
Not sure of the Avalon's onboard computer, but the Camry's is typically ~1 MPG high.

Just picked up my 08 Touring in Las Vegas. On the trip home, across Arizona, I got a calculated 34.8 mpg, the display showed 33.0. That's at 70-75 mpg!
