Default Fuel refill door not opening

1996 Avalon
When I pull up the lever, the fuel door isn't opening.
Coincidentally, I've heard a new sound, a slight banging in the rear quarter where the fuel door is.
Is there an easy fix for the fuel door issue?
Thanks!

edit...never mind, go the door open and the spring is missing.

My '98 Avalon fuel door quit opening and we found that the spring on the door was broken off. To see if it is the spring, have someone pull on the door while you pull the release. If it opens, look on the hinge side of the door. There should be a piece of metal bent in a vee that puts pressure on the door.
I havn't replaced the spring yet, so do not know the cost.
