The price I have right now on a 2004 Avalon XLS is around $28,600 with the GU leather package and bucket seats. Not really interested in a Lexus.
I have a current body style Avalon and have nothing but praise for this car. Never in the shop with nearly 60k. See it in my pics. Smoothest, quietest and most luxurious car I have ever owned.
I have already spoken with my friend who owns the local Yoda dealership. The '05's will be out in August. They have seen pictures on a web site that posts information on an "event" basis. Basically they can all log in at a certain time to look at it and its features....but cannot look at it later or print from the site.
From what he tells me, the vehicle will be larger and with more features. Should have the 3.3L V-6 and the 5spd auto. Cost will also be comparable if not slightly higher (could have predicted that one myself).
I bought the first 2000 he received and he asked if I wanted his first '05. I would say yes....but my wife loves this current car so much, and with nary a problem cannot justify spending the money....it is that good!
From experience the new ones will be higher not only in list price but in final price negotiated....hot new models always are. The current prices on Avalon's have been very good compared to what I payed back in 2000.
I say buy it.....you won't be disappointed and your deal sounds more than fair.
BTW...got a wild hair last year to trade the Avalon for a new '03 ES300. Drove it at length and found the Avalon to be larger, smoother and with more features. Also found the 5spd auto in the ES to be inferior in shift quality to the old 4spd in the Av.....really abrupt!

brain so you fealt the new es was abrupt on the 5 speed as well your not the only person that has mentioned that wonder why some have concluded that? I haven't had the time to drive the new es330 yet when i do ill be sure to check that out..The new avalon for 05 look's like it may turn out to be a good seller thanks for the head up on that but i agree with you if you like your current ride why change out ...

The insurance adjuster called yesterday, they are totaling the car. Went by the dealer and talked with the salesman, he confirmed that they won't be discounting the 05s when they first come out. I won't pay list for a car, and I can't wait 9 or 10 months to replace the wife's car. I went ahead and took the deal on the 04 XLS in match status they found. It is the same color as the wife's 96, Silver Spruce with the stone interior. I have stone in my 03 Tundra limited and it looks nice. She has black in her 96 so it will be close to what she had.
If it is still available, they are going to get it allocated Monday and I should have it end of Jan, first part of Feb.
Looks like the best deal I am going to get is invoice. The insurance is going to pay $7,987 for the 96 XLS.

I love the Silver Spruce as that is what we have. Great. We have the Ivory interior which is nice but a b!#$% to keep clean.

Good luck and post pics when you get it.
I will post pictures when the car gets here. We are approved for the loan at the credit union, got the check from the insurance and the dealer got the car for me. It is supposed to be avalilable for shipment Jan 24 and we should have it around the end of Jan.
My Dad has n 02 Avalon Silver Spruce with grey leather, nice car i get to drive it occasionally.
The Avalon is ok to drive but personally i hate when my parant's trade my Tundra and i drive there Avalon that things sit's too low to the ground for me and i am 6'2 and like the highchair seat the tundra provides..The avalon also feel's overly light in the rear end too allmost like a better shock setup would greatly help it as note the factory springs are too soft for my taste bud's...

It is a true luxury car in my mind. Yeah...there are better handlers out there...but no American sedan can match this one's quiet, refined ride.
I dont think it would affect lexus sales at all lincoln ls and the grand marq have them so why not toyota...Wile i think the avalon 3.0 liter v6 is ok i personally feel toyota should add a 3.3 v6 and have a 4.3 liter v8 option as well and make it rear drive like the gs430....
Its all about how they market it. Right now I find the Avalon to be a bigger, better car than the ES300 (ES330 - same car/dif engine) and in similar price categories.
I guess the Avalon may have to go the RWD/V-8 direction if Buick/Chrysler does the same (which they are). That is the main competition according to Toyota, not Lexus.
