Hey L.M. You will love your new Avalon, the ride, the mileage, the feel ,everything about it!!! We are on our third one & they have all been bullet proof vehicles!! The first one was a 96 & it got the same treatment as your old one did, but they fixed it. Was still a good car after a 14000.00 repair bill. The one we have now is a 01 xls loaded & never had any warranty repairs done at 34000 miles. It just isn't as good looking as the 00 THUNDER GRAY LIMITED TRD 4X4 WITH A/R PYTHON WHEELS! My opinon, not hers!! Enjoy your new ride!!
I purchased a 2000 Avalon 4 months ago although the new 05 suppose to be nice the price might be a lot higher .If you looking for a Avalon they didnt change that much from 2000 to 2004 so you will not be missen out on the options they all look the same basicaly the 04 have different tail lights that about it.the car is flawless and you will be happy with the XLS modle that the only one they sell in Canada dont know about the USA. Hope this helps .

I'm new to this forum but have been on the JagLovers forum for a couple of years. I'm loking to buy a '99 to '2000 Avalon or Camry for my wife.
Any help on what to look for as particular problem areas is welcome and appreciated.

Occasional problems on this vehicle are failures of the Engine, the Charcoal Canister/Evaporative Solenoids and the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Lift Sensor (3.0 L engine only). Failure of the Engine is caused because the engine oil gels. Engine oil gelling will also cause excessive engine oil usage. When proper maintenance schedules for oil changes are followed, oil gelling should not occur. Toyota has issued an 8 year unlimited mileage goodwill repair for this condition. Failure of the Charcoal Canister/ Evaporative Solenoids or the EGR Lift Sensor will cause the check engine light to illuminate. The cost to repair the Engine is estimated at $4500.00 for parts and $1384.50 for labor. The cost to repair the Charcoal Canister/Evaporative Solenoids is estimated at $263.95 for parts and $65.00 for labor. The cost to repair the EGR Lift Sensor is estimated at $33.12 for parts and $65.00 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax.

my mother has a 1999 avalon it's a great car and the engine the 3.0 liter v6 has been a great engine (the only issue i recall them mentioning was engine sludge issues) and the warrenty has been extended because of that however they haven't had any issues and there car get's an oil change since new like every 4 k just like my tundra does..Avalon has no issues beyond changing the brakes and a few part's like the window modlings that have been replaced around the rear door's for the black trim was cracking on the finish .overall it's been a great car and smooth quiet the avalon rides on a same platform as the camry however avalon is a little longer and a bigger car..The avalon was introduced in 1995 and had ongoing changes on the 1998 avalon such as new headlight's ,taillights and new bumpers with foglights on xls for 1998 to 1999...The 2000 look was compleatly new with a boxey like design and i major overhaul ..for 2004 avalon has a new navigation system added on xls as an option (the look changes yet again for 05 when the all new avalon roll's out)
We bought a new 2001 Avalon XL in Jan. '01, wife's car, can't say enough good things about it. It has been a great car. And the roominess is great -- especially if you are older or have older relatives who need to get in and out fairly easily. The backseat is huge. The trunk is huge. A full size spare tire also came with it. The seat belts are oversized. We have the dual power seat option, and that is also nice. I think buying a used Avalon is a great value. These things will last forever. The only warranty issues we had were: recall for rear child seat anchors; driver's seatbelt was replaced; and the battery was replaced under warranty. The car has plenty of power, and the gas mileage is good (20-25 city/highway). The only change I would make to this car is stiffen up the suspension a little bit.

Ensure to have a meachanic take a look at the engine oil leaks at the bottom of the cylinder block. I bought a used 2001 Toyota Avalon XLS. It developed an oil leak in that area. Dealership wants $500 dollars to overhaul engine.

The dealership wanted to overhaul my engine because of sludge damaged. But they are charging me for all the parts that needed replacement. The service advisor says it might cost me more than $500 dollars for parts...
Still a little undecieded as to getting a tundra or a avalon... not sure if i really need a truck...
Just wondering if anybodies got an avalon and if they like it and if they've had any problems with it
thanks
Yes, we bought a brand new Avalon in 2005 and loved it until recently. It's been in at the dealership shop for six weeks now with a small oil leak they are having a hard time finding. That's why I joined this forum, to do research. I'm told the first year any new model comes out is not the best year to buy because their are usually quirks that have to be worked out. We thougth Toyota quality was beyond this but I guess we were wrong!
