We also have an Avalon XLS ,it's the wifes daily driver . She loves it will not part with it, no problems and it's a 1999.
The things I don't like about it are the soft ride and when we have it loaded ( 4 people ) it will bottom out if you hit dips too fast. JMO.

Have a 2000 Avalon XLS. Love it. Best car I have ever owned. My wife would not have any other. 48k miles so far and NEVER in the shop for anything other than routine maintenance.

See my pics for a look at it.

My wife drives a 2000 Avalon XL. She loves it and we have had no problems with it at all.

Post Avalon...

If you want the leather and do not need the heated seats, try looking at an XL with what they call the luxury package or "leather".Best dollar for dollar value. One downfall is current models do not have a 60/40 split rear seat, just a pass thru large enough for I think something like 18 inches square.

I have heard that they are redesigning for '05. Larger with more powerful V-6 and 5 spd auto. Got that from a post on edmunds Avalon forum for what its worth.

Would buy another Avalon in a heartbeat. Love it almost as much as I love my Sequoia.

Default New Car

I know this is a Tundra board, but I need some help. The wife wrecked her 1996 Toyota Avalon XLS. The insurance adjuster says he will probably total the car. The problem: We will likely need to buy a new car toward the end of the month when the insurance company pays off. We are looking at a 2004 Toyota Avalon XLS, same color as she has now that I can get delivered near the end of this month. The dealer is offering to sell at invoice so far.

However, I hear that Toyota will redesign the Avalon for 2005. Anybody know anything about if that will happen and what will change? When should the 2005 be available? If it is a big change we will probably bank the money and let her drive my new 2003 Tundra Limited until the 05 Avalon comes out and buy then.

Thanks for any help

I heard the same thing, but with a new Avalon costing almost $35k why not buy her a Lexus LS 300? Way better service not to mention a very nice car.

To bad about your Avalon. We have a 95. great cars. I believe I heard in the toyota news interview on Toyota.com, that there is going to be an all new Avalon in 05. Actually late 04. It's in one of the "pressroom" pages, refering to theTFX I think. It's a long one, but I think about a third of the way thru, there is a quick reference to an all new Avalon in late 04. I'm too lazy to listen to it again, but I'm sure I heard it in there somewhere. It should at least have the 3.3 in it. I gave the wife the Avalon, that's how I got the tundra. Good luck.

yea avalon is in for a big redesign soon My mom currently drives an 99 xls avalon(she got new) and i love it (big car smooth quiet and for the price look's like an ls400 or ls430 from lexus ...The new avalon is currently planned for 2005 and i am going to say maybe powered by a new 3.3liter vvti v6 powered from the new camry or toyota might even think of adding a lexus 4.3vvti liter v8 from lexus(we will see).
I know toyota is trying to not make the avalon appear so bulky like when avalon was changed out in the new body style for 2000 time will tell if toyota manage's to make the avalon more sporty with more refinement to the flagship seden from toyota...

i think you mean ES300 (now ES330)and that one is smaller with less room why buy a es330 that is smaller and your only paying more for the Lexus on the nameplate..Comparing an es to an avalon is like comparing an es to a camry and there both build on the same platform but lexus will cost you more not to mention service that is generally ok...
