Question Help! '05 Avalon ignition

Hey all! I have an '05 Avalon with an ignition problem. I was unable to shut off the car earlier today and was even able to take the key out of the ignition with it still running!

I eventually killed the motor by pulling out the ignition fuse, but now it won't start. The power comes on and everything works, but in order to turn off the power I have to unplug the battery. Any ideas?

I dont really have an answer - but I also have an 05 (just got it saturday) and would hope something like that would still be under warranty??? or extended warranty?

Do you have an aftermarket alarm? Just curious.

It doesn't have an aftermarket alarm. I forgot to mention it's the Touring edition.

It seems there was something broken in the ignition lock where the key goes in. I could turn the key to the left but it wouldn't go all the way off and I could actually remove the key and the car was still running

After some research, I managed to remove the cylander part where the key goes in, and noticed a 2nd part further in. When I removed that (gently) I noticed the very tip of it was broken.

Is it possible to replace just this part or am I forced to take it to a dealer? It has 42,000 miles on it so it's just past the 36,000 mile warranty. The dealer said it would cost over $700 to replace the whole dang assembly.
