Default Laser Cruise Control for 2006 Avalon Limited

A short time ago my Dynamic Laser CC started malfunctioning for no apparent reason. I would activate the switch and it would engage for anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds then disengage and flash the C1 error code. I would attempt to activate it again and it would immediately go to C1. I have scrubbed and cleaned and cleaned the two little glass boxes in front of the car, but that doesn't help at all. I've scoured the internet for similar issues, but haven't found anything about it.
Any suggestions short of taking it back to my (awful) dealer who charges $100.00+ just to tell me what's wrong with it?

I have to admit for a 3 year old Toyota "flagship" sedan with 42k miles on it, I'm very disappointed with the integrity of this car. This is one of a few things that has failed since I bought it.

Not sure if this has anything to do w/ it; however, our '04 Sienna has the laser cruise and it will beep, a red light will flash and the cruise kick off, or not set at all if the wipers are on. The safety idea here is that the cruise should not be on at all if it's raining, etc...

It will function if the wipers are only in intermittent mode tho'.

that is the oddest thing. Thanks for the reply. I'll have to fiddle with my wipers and see if it has something to do with it. Thanks again!

have had it happen to me too (same model ) - happened once when raining (wipers) and another time when i was driving into the sun with limited visibility - it disengaged and flashed C2- must be some sort of safety setting...very annoying but makes sense, i guess.

The laser cruise won't work if it's raining. Also if for some reason if the laser is not bouncing off the the vehicle in front of you it won't work. Be dirty or whatever or the sun is blinding it.

If you push the cruise lever ahead and hold it after you push the button on the end to turn it on you can make it go into regular cruise control mode that will not shut off when the wipers are running.
