Default Anyone seen the 2005 Avalon yet????

I was wondering if anyone has seen photos of the new Avalon due out in Jan of next year. From what I have heard, this vehicle is a major upgrade from the current model including 270 Hp motor, Heated and cooled seats, electric seats in the rear . This bad boy should do just fine.

the toyota guy i talked with has picture of the new avalon ..I too was told the same infomation nicer design and looks like the new camry only bigger with less bulk than the boring outdated current avalon....I too can't wait to see the all new avalon since the camry looks better than the flagship sedan(avalon is camry underneat it's just on a longer wheelbase) the lexus es330 also shares the same underpinning's too...

Is that 270 HP engine derived from Camry's 3.3L or 4Runner's 4.0L?

I found the following on a Camry board with a post from one of the guys who works the line at the plant.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not that this has got anything to do with anything...but

this morning I was back at a loading dock and there were all of these crate boxes and they were labled;Assembly, Bodyweld and so on...
But in this 1 box was a car body and it was completely covered in the car covers they usually have on new cars so nobody can tell what they are.

Yeah people, we'll soon one day be building these cars like there's no tomorrow but we're not allowed to see it right now...whatever.

Anyway...imagine this. It looked like a kit car had just been dropped off.
There were crates with misc. parts...1 with a tranny...1 with a 3.5L engine...1 with a couple of sets of new wheels for the Avalon. It looked like fun...I wanted to tear it open and try to put it together...

All of these boxes were obviously from Japan. they all had papers on them from where they'd been sent from to Georgetown...they also had a lot of Japanese writing on them.

It was neat to see all of that. I remember when we started building the Sienna. I also got to see it come in a box the same way. I foolishly tried looking in that box ...and somebody seen me doing it...they were a little tiffed at me. They shoo-ed me off and I left fearing for my job...I wasn't as wise then as I am now.

Default Avalon 2005

Anyone have info on the launch date for the 2005 Avalon?
I've heard late summer 2004, "sometime this fall", and Jan. 2005.
I also hear that it will be a significant redesign. True?
Any details on new features or on the design?
Let's hopw it is a bit more sporty than the 2004's.

Gotta agree a little there with V8GEORGIA. It does have some design cues similar to the Prius.

It's an artist's sketch. Who cares. Until I see a real photo that artists sketch means nothing.

I found this on another Camry Forum where this person, a Toyota insider at the plant, has actually seen the new Avalon. BTW, it is not in this post but he claims elsewhere in the foum that the new Av will have the keyless operation as does the LS430.

I've got great news...I just saved a bunch of money...

No really,

Any team member who wanted a sneak peak at the 2005 Avalon got to do so yesterday...and yes I was there.

This car was so bad-*** it's not even funny. This car is truly toyotas flagship. Believe it or not it's finally sharing it's platform (mostly) with the Lexus GS. From the front windshield to the back of the car it's all Lexus no doubt. The front sheetmetal is all different from the Lexus. The headlights are straight from the crown concept though. This unit was loaded up with every available option. HID headlights, reclinable rear seats, dynamic cruise control, navigational, auto sun shade in the rear window. This car was super nice and it was thick just like the new GS. This car was actually a prototype built in Japan and even the team leaders who oversee major model changes at our plant were surprised at the build quality of this 1st car....everything fit perfectly. The current Avalon has a ton of interior gaps this one has zero.

The newest Sienna is touted as being a Lexus with a Toyota badge...this new Avalon is just the same. This car is tight. It had the 3.5 liter that we will soon be building with a 5 speed tranny. It's rated for 270HP. 17" polished aluminum wheels.

I over heard one of the team leaders over this car saying Toyota had wanted this Avalon to be rear-wheel drive but re-tooling the plant to accomidate a rear wheel drive car made it impossible. I do know that Toyota is trying to get a tax break through Kentucky on updating the Georgetown plant.

One more thing while it's on my mind. The 2005 GS 6 cylinder version will be available with an AWD option....I wonder just how close in design the GS and Avalon are?

...and who said the Avalon would never be AWD?

Excellent post Brian!

A RWD Avalon with 4Runner engine and A750 (most likely) tranny. We can all enjoy a true full-sized RWD sedan with Toyota quality. Not to mention at 1/2 price of LS430.

My question is: Why does 2005 GS 6-cylinder have only a 3.0L/245HP?
