Avalon Model Year Timing?

I'm a bit confused by the posts concerning 2005 vs 2006 Avalons. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it, the 2005 Avalon was announced in the fall of 2004 and released in the Spring of 2005. I've seen posts stating the 2006's were coming out in July 2005.

Was the 2005 model only out for 1/2 of a year then the 2006 came out in mid 2005?

I am planning to buy an Avalon and was sorta waiting untill spring of 2006 thinking that was when the next model year would be out.

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.


BTW: I've been following TS for years since I purchased a 02 Tundra Limited. By far the best truck I've ever owned! I've had Ford, Dodge, and Chevys but will never have anything else but a Tundra from now on !

90% of all Avalons on the lots in the Boston area are 2006 models with a few 2005 left overs. The only changes between the two years is a new type of oxygen sensor and the availability of Traction control, Vehicle skid control on the XL and Touring models for 2006.

My 2006 was the second one to arrive at the dealer's on Aug 18, 2005, if that's any help. He was also beginning to receive 2006 Camry's and other 2006 lines at the time. The '05 Avalon was out in February as a brand new model, so it's likely they will be on a fall schedule for some time now. An inventory search on Avalons in Southeast Toyota's district now shows no 2005 models available.
