Fuel door won't open

99 avalon-fuel door won't open. You have to hold lever up inside car and open door with your hand. Cable is working going to gas door area. I took fuel door off but I don't see anything broke or missing. Put some WD-40 on door hinge but this did not help. I can't figure this one out-maybe a spring is missing. Any help appreciated. gamtnman

Same thing happened to me on a Honda I was looking at. There was a little clip that was missing inside the door. I stole one off the car next to it.

The fuel door spring is either missing or broken.
Here's the part # 77360-33021
Any toyota dealer should have it or PM me, I can get it for you.

Same thing happened on my GF's 98 Camry. Metal clip fell off. Not sure if it's broken or just fell off. However, I still have the clip and will be looking at it to either put it back or get a new one.

I found fuel door spring part no. 77360-33021 at the local Toyota dealer here in SC. As soon I saw the new part I knew what had happened-the metal spring had come off the piece of plastic. Thanks for your help. GAMTNS

I have the same problem on my 92 LE, except that holding up the latch as you try to open the door does not work. Any suggestions on how to release this door manually?

go thru the trunk on the drivers side and find the release cable, follow it until it meets the fuel door, i memory serves me, twist the cable gently, it should pop out and release the fuel door.
