Go to Checker/ PEP Boys/ Auto Zone or any major auto parts store.
They will USUALLY read the ENGINE codes for FREE. Then report back to us and we can assist you futher.
I am guessing it is a P0440, but thats just a guess.

The dealer is the only one who can read VSC Codes that I know of.
A 2006 avalon should be under warranty, I would take it back to dealer or another dealer if your unhappy with the first one.

Thanks, I will do that. If it is a PO440, is that a O2 Sensor?

On my 2000 XLS both VCS (on and off) lights stay on. Took it to one dealer, he found code C0208, cleared the codes, but lights came back on after 2 weeks. Took it to another dealer, he found code C1208/54 (cause RM746U1) and 'calibrated steering sensor customer to monitor', the lights came back in a week. As a comletely weird observation, the lights seem to come on and stay when the weather gets cooler (mid autumn to mid spring) and less likely to do so during warmer weather!!! The car drives like a dream, but those lighs are annoying! Any suggestions ? Appreciate yoru help !

Have the battery checked. They usually fail a load test. This will cause the steering sensor calibration to become out of wack..when the voltage goes below 9v or so.
This is a very common thing, on just about any toyota.

Hi and thanks for replying ! I actually recently replaced the battery to a new one, but this did not solve the problem ! any other ideas ? Thanks for your time !

PS I read that some get rid of the VSC lights problem by replacing the gas cap. Do you think it *may* work in my case as well ? ? ?

Default Re: Check Engine Light/VSC Light remain on

I had this identical problem on my '06 Avalon with 22000 miles. The check engine light and the VSC light came on and stayed on. I took it to the dealer and they said it was a bad battery and replaced it under warranty. The lights hadn't come back on as yet but I have only gone from the dealer to home. At the same time I also had the main control module for the power windows went out and my right front speaker blown, all replaced under warranty. I was wondering was the battery the source of all the problems or just coincidence.

There should be a code stored with the VSC light on. What is it?

if they did a o2 sensor, I don't think it has anything to do with filling the car up... they prob replaced the wrong sensor,, I wouldn't be suprised...

What codes did/does it have?
What is a VSC sensor? ( no such thing).
Do you have the part numbers of the parts they changed on your receipt?
I dont understand why they would change an 02 sensor for an EVAP problem.
We need the codes in oreder to assist you more

Shop replaced three 02 sensors needlessly. Problem still exists and your mechanic says the car is fine now. Did he say that before he took your money or afterwards????????

Look for another shop dude!
