AvalonGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Avalon.
This is a discussion thread titled "Check Engine Light/VSC Light remain on", within the Avalon forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
Have a 2006 Avalon XLS. After refueling a few weeks ago, Check Engine Light came on along with the VSC light. Dealer replaced O2 Sensor and VSC Sensor. After refueling, both lights came back on. Checked the gas cap and it was on tight. Less than 5,000 miles.
Any ideas on correcting this would be appreciated. 200 miles back to see the dealer.
They are going to have to fix it for you, but make sure you don't top off the tank when you fill--stop refueling whenever the nozzle cuts off. Topping off can cause evaporative cannister and emissions warning issues. The VSC would seem unrelated, but on the Sequoia a while ago a defective gas cap could cause the VSC light.

Have any code to share with us? So we have a direction of things to look at.
When the check engine light comes on it disabels the VSc and thats probably why the VSC light is on.

Thanks. The topping off may have been the issue. All warning lights are working after I disconected the battery and reset the computer. Have not had any further problems.

I have the same issue with my 2002 Avalon. I dropped it off to the dealership. Should have checked the site first. I'll find out Monday what the dealership did to fix the check engine light being illuminated.

I have a 97 XLS and i had the problem of the engine light going off. I had to replace three O2 sensors, but it is still illuminated!! My mechanic told me that there is nothing wrong with the car, so just ignore the light. However, it is kind of annoying!! anyone have a soln?>

It was saying O2 sensor, but all three were replaced!! I cant remember the code that came on...
Just because a vehicle throws a code, dosnt mean to replace whatever it shows bad.
You have to diagnos the circuit. The ECU, wiring, control relay and 02 sensors are all in that circuit.
We need a code to help you more. Sometimes people miss interpret codes.
Most poeple when they see a p0171 replace the 02 sensor, when in actuality it MAF sensor related or low fuel pressure and sometimes a 02.
Please try to get someone to read the code so we may better help you

my O2 sensors were worn out and needed to be changed anyway, the guy who owned the car before me didnt give a crap about the car. I will try to run a diagnosis on it and get you the code thats going to show up.

I had this problem when I overfilled the gas. I disconnected the battery and the light went away. But the light came back on a week later. I have done this for a couple of weeks now. Is there any other way to reset. Thanks in advance.
