Default Air Bag Warning Light '98 Avalon

Air Bag warning light came on and went off a few times in the past few weeks. About a week ago it came on and stayed on. Haynes, owner's manual, and other internet forums said "get thee to the dealer." No info though on what might be the issue. In SE Florida, just driving onto the lot at the dealer starts the clock on a $90/hour labor rate which gives me "the willies." Any ideas as to what may have fired off the warning light? Anyway to diagnose or fix without resorting to a shop? Thanks, in advance. My Avi has 148K and this is my first forum post problem.

My '02 has the same problem. SRS indicator will blink for a week, then go off for a week. Has been going on and off for six months now. Seems to coinside with taking passengers for ride (but not always). It always happens to be off when I am at the dealer for scheduled maint.

Have you found a solution?

My 01 just had the light come on and stay on-does anyone know what could be wrong?

I just bought a 97 Avalon today and during my research, I saw this come up as a known issue. It's supposedly related to the outside temperature being cold (under 32F or so if I remember correctly).

Also, check the connector under the seat. Ours worked loose once or twice. I put a zip tie around it to keep it together. No problems since.
