Default 03 Avalon Headlight Assembly

The 2003 Avalon XLS that I just purchased has quite a bit of hazing on the driver's side headlight (the passenger side has been replaced already). I'm trying to decide whether it makes more sense (and/or it's cheaper) to replace the assembly or find a detail shop to get the plastic compounded.

If I go the replacement route, how difficult is it to replace the headlight assembly? I recently replaced both headlights on my wife's F150, and it took all of 30 minutes to do both sides ... but it seems like I remember seeing something about having to soften (with heat) a seal or gasket on the Avalon.

I'm a newbie to Toyotas in general, so any guidance will be appreciated!

What did they charge to restore your headlights? Do you know if it makes a difference as to how bad they are in their pricing?

No I don't think its by how bad but by the type of car you have.

I paid $160.00 for mine and they came out to my house to do it.

Well, I ended up buying a used OEM part off ebay ... picture looks good ... not new, but good ... certainly better than mine is now. $37 + shipping.

Given that I have the old ones off my wife's F150, and will have one off my Avalon ... I might try "refurbishing" one myself. There are quite a few products sold to do just that!

Another member told me that he was pretty sure you have to remove the front bumper to get at the "last" attachment point! I now have the replacement headlight assembly, and I only see 3 places for a bolt to go ... all of which I can see when I raise the hood.

Hope YOU are correct
