can someone please help me. i have a '01 avalon that won't stay running when cold occasionally. sometimes it cranks right up and runs fine, but more frequently it constantly goes dead as I try to get out of the driveway and the minute i let of gas, it will go dead. I have to race the motor until i get on a stretch where i can accelerate for several miles, and then once warmed up, operates without any further problem. the fact that it is intermittent would lead me to believe it is not a fuel or fuel delivery problem and most likely something regarding a cold start. I would appreciate any input and assistance. Thank you, john
Had the exact same common problem on my 2000 Avalon, replace the IAC (Idle Air Controll valve). Dealer would rob, I mean charge you $600 to replace (include some induction service.
Clean the Throttle Valve with some cleaner first I will bet your IAC valve is dirty and hanging up. Try this first it has solved many problems with stalling. Give it a try
